Job description

Work in one of the most dynamic and rewarding workplaces in Australia – the Iwantja Arts studio!

This is a life-changing opportunity for a pair of dedicated, driven and creative people to join the Iwantja Arts team in the roles of Studio Manager and Studio Assistant.

Please note that as well as inviting individual applications, Iwantja Arts strongly encourages joint applications from couples (or other pairs) for these two separate positions.

Iwantja Arts is an Indigenous owned and governed Aboriginal art centre, located in Indulkana Community on the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in the remote north-west of South Australia. One of Australia’s leading Indigenous art centres, Iwantja Arts is renowned for its innovative and culturally rich projects with prestigious outcomes that celebrate Anangu cultural strength and artistic excellence.

Iwantja Arts supports the artistic careers of over 30 Anangu artists including high-profile established artists like Vincent Namatjira, Kaylene Whiskey, Betty Muffler, Tiger Yaltangki and Alec Baker. Iwantja Arts also maintains a strong commitment to fostering the artistic careers of young and early-career artists, which is demonstrated by the emergence of artists such as Rosalind Tjanyari, Priscilla Singer, and Sallyanne Roberts. Primarily a high-energy painting studio, Iwantja Arts also supports artists exploring innovative practices utilising experimental materials and processes, as well as a multimedia program supporting intergenerational collaborative film projects.

The roles of Studio Manager and Studio Assistant offer a rare and exciting opportunity for applicants with the right combination of practical studio-based skills and motivation to achieve meaningful community-driven outcomes. Working with the Art Centre Manager and Arts Coordinator, the successful candidates will work alongside a team of arts-workers and over 30 artists. The successful applicants will join the small but dedicated team who are committed to the principles of self-determination and best practice governance in delivering the strategic vision of Iwantja Arts in the key areas of:

  • studio operations
  • artist support
  • supporting cultural maintenance activities.

We look forward to hearing from willing applicants looking for an invigorating, diverse and rewarding job with Iwantja Arts.
