AddressPembroke Resources is an Australian company that owns the Olive Downs Complex, a large-scale world-class steelmaking coal mine located in the Bowen Basin of Queensland. Over $1 billion has been invested in the Complex and operations commenced in June 2023.
The Olive Downs Complex has been built to be a mine of the future, with fully autonomous haulage and drilling implemented from day one, enabling an efficient ramp up to the Stage 1 production level of 6 per annum. It is also setting new standards in embedded ESG practices.
It is an exciting time to join Pembroke, as we finalise the construction of Stage 1 and commence coal production.
The role reports to the Manager Environment, at Olive Downs Complex. As the Superintendent Environment and Ecology at the Olive Downs Complex, lead the execution of environmental management plans.
Your responsibilities will span:
Environmental Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental laws, regulations, and permits.
- Develop and maintain environmental management systems to monitor and report on environmental performance.
- Assist with coordination of regulatory agencies to obtain necessary permits and approvals for mining activities.
Ecological Preservation
- Develop and implement strategies to minimize the environmental impact of mining operations on local ecosystems.
- Conduct ecological assessments to identify sensitive areas and develop mitigation plans.
- Collaborate with conservation organizations and government agencies to support biodiversity conservation efforts.
Environmental Monitoring and Reporting
- Establish monitoring programs to track key environmental indicators such as air and water quality, noise levels, and habitat disturbance.
- Prepare regular reports on environmental performance for internal and external stakeholders.
- Analyze data to identify trends and potential areas for improvement.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage with local communities, indigenous groups, and other stakeholders to address concerns and build positive relationships.
- Participate in public consultations and community outreach activities to promote transparency and gather feedback.
Team Leadership and Development
- Lead and mentor a team of environmental professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
- Facilitate training programs to enhance environmental awareness and competency among staff members.
Requisite qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental science, ecology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental management, preferably in the mining industry.
- Certification or accreditation in environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) is desirable.
- Strong understanding of Australian environmental laws and regulations related to mining operations.
- Demonstrated experience in ecological assessment and habitat management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven leadership ability, with experience managing teams and driving results in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience using ARC GIS desired.
- Experience using Environmental Management systems desired.
