Role Overview – Superintendent Geotechnical
Barrick Gold's Porgera Operations is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to join our team as a Superintendent Geotechnical in the Mine Technical Services department. As a Superintendent Geotechnical, you will lead and mentor a team of geotechnical engineers and technicians, ensuring the development of technical expertise and professional growth while optimizing safety and productivity in mining operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of geotechnical engineers and technicians, providing guidance and support for their technical expertise and professional growth.
- Develop and implement geotechnical engineering strategies to optimize safety and productivity in mining operations.
- Conduct comprehensive geotechnical assessments and analyses of surface and underground excavations and dumps to identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
- Monitor ground conditions and stability using geotechnical instrumentation and data analysis techniques.
- Collaborate with mine planning, operations, and engineering teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into mine designs, production schedules, and operational plans.
- Review and approve geotechnical designs, reports, and recommendations to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Participate in incident investigations and risk assessments related to geotechnical hazards and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in mine geotechnical engineering and make recommendations for their application in our operations.
Qualifications and Experience:
- 10 years years of experience in both open-pit and underground mining operations, with several years in a senior role, preferably as a superintendent.
- At least 5 years of experience in areas with high rainfall, steep terrain, and weak ground conditions.
- Strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.
- Excellent analytical and report-writing skills.
