Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world's manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is a permanent position on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns or residential on Groote Eylandt. Domestic relocation assistance to Alyangula, Darwin, or Cairns from anywhere in Australia is provided.
As the Superintendent Rehabilitation, you will contribute to the successful completion of projects, improving the functionality and longevity of the Mine Rehabilitation Plan.
You will also be responsible for safely delivering the GEMCO Rehabilitation Program through a diverse range of best practice activities. These activities include (but are not limited to), native seed management, plant nursery propagation, tree planting, weed control & management, rehabilitation monitoring and reporting.
A detailed understanding of operating and/or supervising specialised equipment and machinery is essential to communicating and driving best practice standards.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:
- Lead and inspire a team of rehabilitation professionals and operators. Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure high-quality work, timely execution, and continuous professional development.
- Oversee compliance with safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and quality standards throughout the rehabilitation process.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and other stakeholders to develop detailed rehabilitation plans, establish timelines, and allocate resources effectively.
- Monitor Rehabilitation budgets, review forecast estimates, and implement effective cost control measures.
ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
- Demonstrated experience working with and supervising Indigenous employees or trainees.
- A solid background in Environmental, Mine Rehabilitation, Fire Management and or natural resource management industries.
- Proven ability to analyse complex issues, identify solutions, and make informal decisions.
- Excel at role modelling safe working practices and behaviours to employees and contractors.
Qualifications for this position are:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related field.
- G1, G2, G8, G9 (NT Supervisor and Risk Training).
