The Team
The Temporary Election Workforce (TEW) Support section is responsible for the provision of the ‘Employ Train Pay’ (ETP) helpdesk and payroll services for the Temporary Election Workforce (TEW) engaged by the AEC through an Election event.
To support these critical functions, the section provides advice and support to divisions regarding conditions of employment, engagement and payment of the TEW. As well as administers, maintains and provides advice in relation to the AEC TEW employment and pay systems.
The team provides first point of call advice and support for divisional enquiries related to the TEW election training and supports divisions in payroll services for TEW including administration, reconciliation and payment exceptions.

Our team is diverse where you can demonstrate and develop your various skills including administrating payroll activities, evaluating policies and procedures, system enhancement recommendations and testing. You will be involved with interpreting technical requirements and work in agile environments, including a large-scale modernisation project that will assist with the functionality of future processes within the organisation.
Support Officer – APS Level 5
As a Support Officer within the TEW Support section, you will be expected to lead by example and provide guidance and support to the helpdesk team who respond to inquiries from the temporary workforce and National divisional offices. You will be able to collaborate with your peers, bringing new ideas to life, whilst demonstrating a can-do attitude.
We are seeking someone who is a strong communicator that can liaise with key stakeholders and can prioritise workloads against competing deadlines. This role requires an understanding or willingness to interpret government policies to update new or existing documents.
Senior Support Officer – APS Level 6
As a Senior Support Officer within the TEW Support section, you will be able to work autonomously but also work collaboratively within the team. You will be responsible for managing a dynamic team and ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and resources necessary to carry out electoral events.
This pivotal role includes managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents, and values of everyone. You will be provided the opportunity to further develop your stakeholder engagement capabilities to work with internal and external business partners to harness a collaborate working environment.
To excel you’ll have:
- The ability to work under general supervision and direction, exercising some autonomy regarding how work tasks are performed.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities across a number of different programs/ projects within tight timeframes and in line with legislative requirements.
- Demonstrated personal integrity whilst achieving results within legislative and policy parameters.
Support Officer – APS Level 5
- Proven ability to communicate with influence, negotiate outcomes and manage complex stakeholder relationships, including across a geographically dispersed network.
- Proven conceptual and analytical abilities with sound knowledge of change management practices and techniques to enable innovation.
- A demonstrated ability to support and lead team members while developing capabilities, encouraging career development, and embedding professionalism.
Senior Support Officer – APS Level 6
- Proven ability to supervise a team to ensure high quality outputs, including the development of team members at lower classifications, building team capacity, and encouraging career development.
- A demonstrated ability to communicate decisions using good judgement, expertise and knowledge, governed by legislation, regulations, best practice principles or relevant operating instructions and procedures.
- Ability to conduct research and analysis to provide conclusions on issues and assist in the management, preparation and coordination of policy or procedure formulation and/or project management.
