POSITION TITLE:Support Technician

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Operations Manager

PURPOSE / OBJECTIVES:

The Support Technician is responsible for the diagnostic, expertise, repair and validation of optronics and electronics systems within a structured Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) process whilst observing quality standards and requirements.


The incumbent within this position will propose solutions and drive improvement for the Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) lines equipment and processes (work instructions, flowchart, capability implementation, etc). High attention to detail will be required for traceability and quality standards.


The Support Technician is also responsible for the transfer and adaptation of capability from SED operations (France) to the SEDA operations, for the IRST ISSC. This includes development and implementation of associated training, document packages and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Proven experience with the setup and application of test equipment (electrical analyser, digital multi-meter, oscilloscope, signal generator, spectrum analysers, etc.)
  • Understanding of electronic modules and electrical/electronic wiring and competent to analyse and interpret technical documents, schematics and technical drawings
  • Demonstrated competency and ability to perform precision electronic assembly tasks
  • Advanced use of MS Office Products (Word, Excel, Access)
  • Knowledge in continuous improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, 5S etc)

DESIRABLE

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering; in the field of Avionics, Electronics or Optronics
  • Proven experience in complex system engineering support and maintenance
  • Prior work experience in soldering within the electronics industry
  • Experience in technical documentation and processes IAW Quality Standards AS/NZS9001, AS/NZS9100, and AS/NZS14001 framework

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Australian Citizen 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security clearance to Negative Vetting Level 1
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Proactive, rigorous and well organised

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Systems inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair/upgrade integration and validation
  • Perform assistance of maintenance activity on customers’ sites across Australia and New Zealand
  • Provide accurate technical reports including but not limited to; equipment and troubleshooting information, proposed solutions and resolutions of a problem using strong analytical and communication skills
  • Ensure proper recording and closure of all technical issues
  • Assist in maintaining Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) lines equipment and structure
  • Assist in maintaining and developing procedures, work instructions, forms and associated processes
  • Take ownership of customer issues reported and see problems through to resolution and reporting, where required
  • Follow standard procedures for proper escalation of unresolved issues to the appropriate internal/external (OEM) teams
  • Develop/study potential improvement and capability implementation, including associated training, document packages and equipment
  • Assist in maintaining equipment and facility for designated areas such as equipment calibration and maintenance, Electro-Static Discharge control, Foreign Object Detection and Control and 5s for workshop organisation and layout
  • You may be deputised to some other tasks including but not limited to quality or work health and safety or stock management. You will be trained (on-job training) by and shall report to the responsible of the role for which you are deputised

All tasks listed above shall be performed in accordance with Quality Standards and applicable processes in place at Safran Electronics and Defense Australasia

GENERAL:

  • Be responsible and accountable to act in such a manner that does not place themselves and or any other person’s health and safety at risk
  • Consult and cooperate with management in meeting WH&S obligations
  • The employee may be required to work outside usual office hours from time to time to fulfil their performance. The ability and willingness to be flexible with hours will be taken into account when remuneration is reviewed
  • From time to time as dictated by job requirement be prepared to undertake travel internationally or domestically, wherever required for both short and extended periods (up to a maximum of one month at any one time)
  • The requirements of the role may change from time to time and will be reviewed with the employee as required
