👉🏼 The need-to-know…

Kira House is a residential Family and Domestic Violence (FDV) unit providing support and care to young people aged between 14 and 18 years old and their children. Based in the Middle Swan area, Kira House has been operating since 2012 and is a key part of Rise Youth services. 

As a Support Worker (Family Domestic Violence), you will provide services in the residential setting on an initial casual basis with shifts across Monday to Sunday (8am–3pm, 12pm–7pm and 5pm–8.15am sleep shift). Please note that you must be available to work sleep shifts, you will be eligible for sleep allowance between 11.00pm & 7.00am.

You will have the option to include information about your availability within the next application steps. 

A typical day may look like… 

  • Providing trauma informed, person-centred support and advocacy to young women and their children who are escaping family and Domestic Violence whilst establishing rapport.
  • Conducting telephone assessments with those seeking refuge and supporting the intake of new clients.
  • Empowering young people to develop a holistic support plan and achieve planned goals and outcomes.
  • Providing life skills such as education, support, and assistance, including parenting and assisting to establish and/or re-establish social and family networks.
  • Program development including identifying and monitoring the current requirements and needs, maintaining links with community-based organisations and consulting with stakeholders to help design, manage, monitor, and evaluate services. 
  • Program administration including maintaining accurate records and documentation including client case notes and support plans. 

👉🏼 The need-to-have…

Here at Rise, we nurture potential. But we do need you to have a few tricks up your sleeve including the following:

  • Cert III in Youth Services/Community Services/Similar discipline relating to FDV or significant related experience with deep understanding of the impacts of FDV and co-existing factors; mental health, physical health, homelessness, substance/alcohol misuse, isolation, and offending.
  • Experience working with young people at risk in particular Aboriginal women, those of a culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) background, and/or from the LGBTIQA+ community.
  • Understanding of the National and State Standards for Stopping Family and Domestic Violence and ability to understand/work within government funding systems. 
  • Ability to develop networks in both Community and Government agencies and to advocate on behalf of young women and their children to access support from these agencies.
  • Accredited suicide assist certificate and medication competency (desirable).

Formalities (The serious stuff!)

Appointments to this position will be subject to a National Police Clearance / NDIS Worker Screening Check / Working with Children Check / requires a driving licence and reliable vehicle to use for work purposes. Due to the specific needs of the position, female is considered to be a genuine occupational requirement under section 30 (2) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1984.

Costs for new checks will be covered and/or reimbursed by Rise.
