About the role 

The Supportive Care Consultant is responsible for providing information, support and service referrals via telephone and face to face interactions with people diagnosed with cancer, their family and members of the community, in addition to contributing to the day-to-day operations of the Brisbane Hub. This role also plays a pivotal part in developing and maintaining relationships with health professionals to build awareness of CCQs services, programs and
available opportunities to support all Queenslanders navigating cancer. This role is an administrative/client focused role not a clinical role.

This is a full-time, permanent position, working 37.5 hours a week.

Your contribution will include:

  • Identifying the needs of those impacted by cancer and assisting with their informational, emotional, and practical support needs by providing appropriate support and referral to relevant services and programs, either face to face or by telephone.
  • Providing cancer, palliative care and/or support-related information verbally and in written form to meet the client's specific needs.
  • Providing face-to-face support and information to clients of the lodge and residents at a CCQ Accommodation facility and office, and providing members of the general public with information about cancer prevention, early detection, and screening.
  • Collecting appropriate data as agreed by the National Minimum Data Set (NMDS), ensuring accuracy and integrity of the client database.
  • Developing and delivering support presentations to volunteer, community and Health professional programs and information sessions 
  • Facilitating the delivery of information programs, education sessions, conferences and symposiums and other activities in Queensland in collaboration with internal stakeholders and private and public health services.
  • Contributing to the planning and evaluation of health education programs, seminars, symposiums and other health professional network activities to address identified needs in line with CCQ’s Vision and Mission.
  • Contribute to building and maintaining shared professional networks with key stakeholders to improve awareness and access to services, meeting strategic priorities and guiding appropriate referrals.
About you  
   
To be successful in this role you will bring:
  • Qualifications in Nursing, Allied Health or Health Promotion/Education.
  • A good understanding of the health/community services sector. 
  • Experience in developing and maintaining relationships with members of the health profession
  • Ability to manage, inspire and motivate individuals and teams to achieve targets.
  • Organisational skills including the ability to organise, manage and prioritise multiple tasks.
  • Experience in leading and motivating individuals with exceptional skills in organisation and project management.
  • Experience in the provision of Supportive Care and an interest in working closely with people affected by cancer.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with people from all levels of the community.
  • Demonstrated experience in the application and use of Microsoft office suite.
  • Ability to use sound judgment and to manage workloads within tight deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic and resilience.
  • Current Queensland Driver Licence is required.
The position provides face-to-face contact with patients at cancer treatment centres. To undertake work within these centres it is essential that you can provide evidence of vaccination against the following VPDs (vaccine preventable diseases)
  1. Measles and,
  2. Mumps and,
  3. rubella (MMR) and,
  4. varicella (chicken pox) and,
  5. pertussis (whooping cough) evidence of vaccination within the last 10 years and
  6. hepatitis B. (evidence of vaccination against).
