Job description

Company Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, hello, hiya, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to do your thing in the office (if you're near one), at home or a bit of both, it's up to you.

About the Sustainability team

Canva Sustainability has a vision of Canva becoming a global leader in sustainability. Sitting within the Finance Group, Canva Sustainability is responsible for the achievement of our ambitious climate objectives inside and outside of company operations.

We are proud of our pioneering commitments including being the first Australian company to join Amazon's The Climate Pledge, the first Australian company to become a participant in Frontier Climate via our climate analytics partners Watershed, and are committed to Doing the most good we can as part of Canva's 2 Step Plan. We strive to embed sustainability across Canva teams to ensure our products, operations, and activities each have sustainability in mind.

Canva Sustainability's work not only ensures operational compliance and excellence across external reporting regimes, but extends to having real world impact both inside and outside of Canva, including the millions of trees that have been planted across the globe through our One Print, One Tree program, benefiting communities, ecosystems, and the climate.

Our day-to-day work is highly cross-functional with a number of teams at the company, such as Real Estate, Legal, Canva Print, Procurement, People, Investor Relations, Finance, and Marketing. Our Sustainability credentials were recently recognised in Kantar's Most Valuable Global Brand Report, driving Canva to a Top 20 result in the Business Technology and Services category.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Sustainability, you'll be the primary owner of Canva's internal and external global climate and Sustainability Reporting, across all relevant jurisdictions. Foundational to the role will be ensuring disclosure readiness, compliance, and engagement with regulators and investors. Secondly, you'll support educating and evangelising Canva's sustainability progress and impact through the publishing of annual Sustainability Reports.

You'll be imperative in not only maintaining preparedness for inbound disclosure regimes, but also in setting Canva up for long term success in achieving climate and sustainability goals, and furthering the brand's position as a climate leader.

What you'd be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • overseeing our yearly footprint measurement across Scopes 1, 2, and 3, setting and monitoring progress to climate targets, and disclosures against TCFD/ISSB aligned frameworks, among other measurement and reporting duties.
  • ensuring the formation, operational excellence, and delivery of Canva's global Sustainability and Climate data, measurement and reporting, positioning the brand as a sustainability leader to our community of over 170 million active users and wider community.
  • ensuring Canva maintains an accurate and up-to-date view of our climate risks, opportunities, metrics, and material issues to help drive business strategy, working with a range of stakeholders inside and outside of the company to achieve this and educating Canva groups on insights arising out of the data and findings.
  • anticipating and monitoring global inbound regulations that will impact Canva, undertaking gap analyses, and being our internal thought leader and subject matter expert on both carbon accounting and the climate regulatory landscape.
  • being the glue between Finance, Legal, Sustainability, and our external advisors to ensure continued momentum and progress towards our climate goals.
  • owning the creation, maintenance, and evolution of an environmental assets register, providing easily accessible records of all of Canva's carbon, energy, and other credit and certificate instruments, making sure the these map to our sustainability commitments.
  • owning the creation of Canva's Annual Sustainability Report that will showcase our key figures, targets, and sustainability impact, as well as the real world results of our climate investment projects such as One Print, One Tree, renewable energy procurement, and Frontier Climate.
  • contributing sustainability information to investors and regulators, ensuring proper audit and controls processes are in place.

You're probably a match if

  • you have deep experience preparing for, reporting on, and disclosing against global carbon accounting and sustainability disclosure regimes, such as the ISSB, the TCFD, the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, SASB, as well as recognised sustainability assessment processes such as materiality assessments, climate risk and opportunities assessments, and in the future, climate resilience scenario modelling.
  • you understand the benefits and tradeoffs between a spend-based, and lifecycle based measurement approach, and can translate sustainability data into financial outcomes.
  • you have experience working with third party auditors in the assurance of climate data, and make complex things simple in the communication of learnings to a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • you have experience driving emission footprint measurements for large international businesses, such as working in an advisory capacity alongside a suite of large clients at a professional services firm, or via work within an internal Sustainability or Finance function at a technology or global business supporting similar projects.
  • you're a natural collaborator, partnering closely with many internal teams such as Sustainability, Finance, and Legal teams and external stakeholders in the achievement of ambitious climate goals.

What's in it for you?

Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard - and we do - but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a range of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.

Here's a taste of what's on offer:

  • Equity packages - we want our success to be yours too
  • Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers
  • An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more
  • Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge and supports you personally
