Live and work on an island in the southern section of the Gulf of Carpentaria. Service providers include local Schools, Hospital and Aged Care, Emergency Services and other Government Agencies and Shopping.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will be responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the community-based Tavern, Motel (100 rooms) and Recreation complex and manages a team which is responsible for providing safe and quality services to its patrons.
In this role, you will be responsible for:
- To efficiently and effectively manage the services and resources of Tavern, Motel and Recreation complex.
- To implement policies as they relate to the Tavern and Motel operation.
- To provide leadership and direction through participatory management practices which utilise knowledge, talent and commitment of staff.
- Provide the community, customers and patrons a satisfactory level of customer service.
- Ensure the cash takings and other sales proceeds are balanced and reports provided to the Executive Manager Finance and Community Services.
- Promote the Tavern, Motel and Event Nights in the community.
- Organise catering, cooking of food/dinner and other eateries for the patrons.
- Ensure appropriate levels of staffing is confirmed for planned events and functions.
- All sales of food, BBQ, snacks and dinner packs are accounted for and cash sales balanced with EFTPOS sales.
- To establish and maintain sound working relationships with the executive management team and assist in the provision of policy advice to as related to the operation of the Tavern and Motel Complex.
- To establish and monitor productive relationships with customers and suppliers.
- To recruit, supervise, train and develop local staff to assume increasing levels of responsibility within the Tavern and Motel operation.

To be considered for this role, you will require:
- Food and beverage management and leadership experience, including venue management experience.
- Previous experience managing the daily operations of a Hotel/Motel.
- Ability to lead, develop and coach a large, multi-skilled team.
- Operational experience to achieve financial and business targets.
- Highly developed customer service skills.
- Current industry Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) qualification.
- RMLV and Approved Manager qualifications.
- Demonstrated experience within a similar role.
- Previous experience working within local Government.
- Previous experience working and living in remote indigenous communities.
