Tax Accountant

About the Business:

We are a small tax & accounting practice with a history spanning over 35 years, located in Huntleys Point, Sydney. The practice prides itself in providing quality services to clients and its flexible work culture.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities:

We are looking for a taxation professional to be a part of our team on a full time basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to, the following tasks:

• Preparation and review of financial statements & individual and entity income tax returns (companies, partnerships, trusts and SMSF’s)
• Preparation of activity statements, including BAS returns & lodgments
• Month end reporting
• Processing payroll on behalf of clients
• Providing both verbal and written advice, as required
• Liaising with the ATO
• Assisting with day-to-day client enquiries through a consultative approach and showing a genuine care for their affairs
• Keeping up to date with changes in accounting standards and taxation law

Skills and Experience:

• Have an aptitude for problem solving and decision making
• Well organised and mature in your dealing with customers
• Strong communication skills that you will use to build lasting relationships

The successful candidate will need:

• Based in Sydney, Australia
• A minimum of 3 years experience in public practice
• Experience working with small to medium sized businesses
• An accounting degree
• Professionally qualified as a CA, CPA or IPA
• Sound knowledge of income tax, GST and accounting standards
• High attention to detail
• Ability to work to deadlines
• Competent at assisting clients with computerised bookkeeping using various accounting software packages such as MYOB, AE Tax, Xero & QuickBooks
• Strong MS Office skills, particularly Excel & Word
• Willingness to do a little bit of everything in a small business environment
• Ability to work autonomously and as a part of a friendly team
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
