Carnamah District High School (DHS) is seeking an inspirational and dedicated Secondary English Teacher.

Teachers and school administrators employed at Carnamah District High School in 2024 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $10,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.  

The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

About the Role

The successful applicant would ideally possess a sound knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum; be able to deliver content in an engaging manner; have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be a highly effective team member. The successful applicant will be required to teach English to students from Year 7 to 12 with a range of ability levels. They will ideally have the capacity to provide a learning environment that is caring, motivational, and differentiated to cater for a range of learning needs. The applicant may be required to teach some options classes and possibly some Primary classes. These classes are negotiable, depending on interests and skills. The successful applicant will ideally be committed to developing positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and the wider community. They will ideally be willing to participate in ongoing professional growth and development activities, support current whole school processes and be collegial, effective collaborators.

The Location and Community

Carnamah is a town and farming community 300 kilometres north of Perth in the Mid-West region of Western Australia. ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
