This is a nine (9) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024Are you a dedicated and passionate Teacher looking for a rewarding opportunity?Kalumburu Remote Community School (RCS) is seeking an enthusiastic teacher to join their high-quality remote school. We are seeking someone who will work with students from Kindergarten to Year 12 in a DOTT provision/specialist role. for detailsTeachers and school administrators employed at Kalumburu Remote Community School in 2024 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $5,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.About the RoleThis role will suit someone who is highly motivated, relationship-focused, and passionate about creating exciting learning experiences to ignite a desire to learn in students. You will teach each class over the week in a subject area to be negotiated with the school. Highly sought after would be Visual Arts, Music, Technologies, Science or HASS. The remainder of the day would be providing support to our Literacy programs.The Ideal TeacherThe successful applicant will ideally be a conscientious, flexible, and innovative teacher who is committed to improving outcomes for Aboriginal students. You will ideally be actively involved both within the school and wider community, highly reflective of your teaching practices and willing to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external networks to establish strong community partnerships.The successful applicant will ideally possess the professional knowledge and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant curriculum using a positive, student-focused approach. A willingness to learn and embed the school’s whole-school programs is essential. Programs include Let’s Decode, Daily Reviews, Spelling Mastery, Zones of Regulation and Protective Behaviours. You will also be involved in the implementation of Two-way and on-Country learning.Strong behaviour support capabilities, grounded in genuine, positive relationships, are vital in this context. The successful applicant will adopt the whole school Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach to behaviour management and embed trauma-informed approaches and cultural awareness in the classroom and whole-school environment. Where there are no suitable applicants with teaching qualifications, applicants without teaching qualifications may be considered.Our SchoolKalumburu RCS runs a 0-3 KindiLink program, two Early Years classes, three composite Primary classes and two composite Secondary classes.From 2019, our school has been part of the Kimberley Schools Project (KSP), a federally funded initiative established to strengthen teaching pedagogy and improve outcomes for Kimberley students. The four pillars of the project are targeted teaching, better early years learning and care, regular attendance, and increased student and community engagement. Kalumburu RCS receives support in the form of professional learning, coaching, and funding through its participation in the project.Our staff at Kalumburu RCS are a positive, supportive team and we have strong external supports from KSP and SSEN:BE coaches. Community participation and involvement in the school is actively encouraged. The local Wunambal language is taught to all classes through a partnership with the local Wunambal Gaambera Aboriginal Corporation, and each term a Stronger Smarter day celebrates Culture and achievement.Kalumburu’s LocationKalumburu, meaning 'Path by the River’ or ‘River Crossing', is the most northerly Aboriginal Community in Western Australia and is situated on Kwini Country on the banks of the King Edward River. The nearest townships to Kalumburu are Kununurra (565 km Southeast), Wyndham (560 km Southeast) and Derby (650 km West). Road access to the region is dependent on seasonal conditions and Kalumburu is often inaccessible by road for four to six months of the year.
