We’re currently looking for early childhood, primary and secondary Teachers for 2024, who are looking to embed themselves in community life. Short and long term positions are available.
Located on Wik Country, the school is leading the way in supporting First Language learning in Queensland. The heart of the school lies in the First Language Curriculum, where Elders actively collaborate with the school on a weekly basis. Under the guidance of the principal, a local Aboriginal woman, the school fosters partnerships with local rangers, enriching the students' educational journey through On-Country experiences. Community members actively participate in the school environment as teacher aides. Recently acknowledged as a showcased school in the Bevan Brennan Every child needs a champion: realising the potential for every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student, the school’s commitment extends beyond academics to embrace holistic development, creating a nurturing environment for growth and cultural enrichment.
With its remote location, the school is surrounded by opportunities for bushwalking, fishing, and camping. There are also numerous swimming holes, just a short drive from town. Despite its remoteness, the community has essential services and facilities, including a medical clinic, church, swimming pool, recreation centre, and a childcare facility. The school caters for students from early childhood through to secondary, with approximately 120 attending. There are approximately 12-18 in each class with local community members assisting in the classroom. The school's housing, built only five years ago, provides comfortable accommodations for staff.
The school would love to invite someone for a year, however, is open to placements from a term, for the right candidate. Teachers who are eligible for Queensland teacher registration but currently do not possess, are encouraged to apply. The Perks!
The school provides the following benefits -
• Salary range $81,628 to $108,359 per annum (dependent on skills and experience). Higher for Senior, Lead and Highly Accomplished.
• Subsidised housing with electricity (dependent on the accommodation - rent is between $11 - $57 a fortnight)
• Location travel allowance of $4,800 paid pro-rata annually. Location travel allowance for dependants include $4,800 for an adult, $2,400 for U/2
• Recognition of Service payment of $3,000 after 1st year if service, $4,500 after second year and $6,000 3rd to 8th year
• Location allowance between $2,108 paid pro-rata annually for a single, up to $8,995 for families
• Site allowance of $1,000 paid pro-rata annually

What You Need to Succeed!
To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to possess and/or demonstrate:
• Queensland College of Teachers registration (or ability to obtain one)
• Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in education for primary and secondary positions. Early childhood qualification for early years positions.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the curriculum
• A high standard of competency and proficiency as a classroom teacher
• The capacity to differentiate and cater for different learning needs
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Good administrative skills
• A willingness to work collaboratively with staff and community
• Ability to build relationships and listen to the needs of the students, school and community
