Douglas Shire Council are hiring exceptional individuals, who are looking for a challenge to help the Shire to Restore Paradise following the devastating impacts of Tropical Cyclone Jasper.
In an unprecedented weather event, the Douglas Shire was impacted by Tropical Cyclone Jasper in December 2023. Recovery work has been extensive and intense, and our beautiful Shire continues to shine as we welcome back visitors and restore confidence in our world-class destination.
As the Shire continues its disaster recovery efforts, several new roles have been created with Douglas Shire Council to undertake the important work of rebuilding Queensland's tropical haven, including this role Team Leader Community and Economic Development.
As the Team Leader Community and Economic Development your role will be to lead the Community & Economic Development Team in achieving Council's goals and objectives by developing and maintaining strategic initiatives to address current and emerging issues within Council and the community. You will also be responsible for implementing and evaluating the benefits of community evidence-based projects developed collaboratively by Council and the community, through analysing Economic and Social Impact Assessments and other benefit analysis.
As a leader you will provide support to your team to ensure that projects, activities, initiatives, operational plans and corporate plan initiatives are achieved to a high standard. You will also demonstrate understanding of community/Economic Development principles and practices including community engagement and you will need to have a community focus with understanding of the smaller community environments. Working in a diverse, fast paced team you will be required to use your proven ability to solve problems, be agile and pivot swiftly when required and have a down-to-earth personality and approach.
You will need to be outcomes focussed, think critically, be innovative in delivery, but also deeply anchored to systems and processes to excel in this position.
Tertiary qualifications in Social/Political Sciences, Community Services, Psychology, Human Behaviour or Business are preferred, relevant experience in humanities/community services related discipline would be ideal or minimum 3 years relevant experience in a similar role would be highly regarded. Local Government experience would be highly regarded but is not essential.
