Team Leader / Career Support Worker - Permanent Part Time Position  – (Tarragindi)

Let us introduce you to a sociable man in his mid 30’s with cerebral palsy and Autism. He is a music enthusiast, a foodie, an established artist and loves travel, surfing, swimming and being involved and connected in his local community.

Currently living in his own home next to his parents, he uses facilitated communication and requires support to live independently and engage with his community. He has a support team that assist him with all aspects of life including personal care, home duties and especially helping him to develop and maintain relationships and community and cultural connections. Food is important to this young man so you will also have the capability to cook and prepare nutritious meals.

The Role

In this lead role you will join a team that is supporting this wonderful young man to live his best life. You will share a common vision of a good life, have an understanding that behaviour is a form of communication, have skills and abilities in relation to personal care (or willingness to learn), routine and vigilance to ensure the highest quality of support is met. Emotional intelligence and reflective skills are key. You will have confidence, creativity, and an extroverted personality to assist the man to access his community activities in ways that will assist him to connect, build and maintain relationships with his existing network and to work with him to build new connections and relationships.

We are seeking someone who has strong leadership and administration skills.  Along with leadership, coordination and administration tasks, you will spend time on roster directly supporting this man, to ensure you are building a valuable relationship, so he feels safe and listened to.  Immersing yourself in his life via direct support will help you to fully understand his needs and desires, providing you with a platform to contribute to his and his family’s vision.  

Other day to day activities would include:

• Providing excellent support and supervision to support staff who form the team you will lead.
• Managing staff rosters, timesheets and overseeing daily shift reports
• Overseeing general maintenance of his home
• Coordinating and Resourcing activities and community inclusion projects
• Ensuring there is consistency to his daily routine.

You will be supported with training, mentoring and direct contact with family and our leadership team through this process.

We are looking for the availability and commitment to work daytime weekends and some overnights within a set roster, with each shift being a minimum of eight hours. You will have up to eight hours per week off roster to manage and support your team.

You are a person with a strong capability to listen and learn. A person with a level of confidence, calmness, self-assurance, and the ability to be a critical and reflective thinker. A person who has experience in, or the ability to learn all aspects of supporting people with complex needs to live their best lives.

Your communication is exceptional.  You understand how to deliver information whilst respecting family values, culture and decisions, and promoting a culture of integrity, respect, privacy and confidentiality.   

You have a common vision of a good life, have skills and abilities in relation to personal care (or willingness to learn), routine and vigilance to ensure the highest quality of support is met. You also possess time management skills to ensure all routines are followed consistently.

Requirements and Selection Criteria

• Ability to build a natural, positive and effective relationship with the gentleman and his family.
• Ability to lead, coach and mentor a small team.
• Ability to listen and learn.
• Experience of supporting people with diverse disability support needs is desirable.
• Strong administration background
• Car and driver’s license
• NDIS Worker Clearance Screening
• Current First Aid and CPR
• Full Covid – 19 Vaccination certificate

Hours

The position is Part Time Permanent Level 4.1 of Home Care Award; however, Aura pays above Award rates.
