Job description

In this exciting and varied role in our newly funded Child and Family Intensive Support Service (CaFIS) in Wadeye, you'll lead a family support team and early childhood team to maximise their impact on the lives of children and families in the community. You'll encourage our teams to use collaborative, culturally appropriate, strengths-based and family-centred approaches to support families in early childhood development and care, family functioning, and health and safety skills.

At the heart of our service is the focus on bicultural participation; that in developing effective working partnerships it is a 'two-way street'. We are committed to co-working arrangements, where our local Aboriginal staff and non-Aboriginal practitioners share a caseload, offering a practice model that respectfully engages clients and provides peer support for the practitioners.

54 reasons is Australia's leading child rights organisation - no ordinary not-for-profit.
Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we're here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the child's voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve - in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:
In this full time, maximum term maternity leave cover position (from 1st June 2024 to 31st January 2025) based in Wadeye, you'll take charge of the day-to-day management of our early childhood and family support programs, driving positive outcomes for the families we work with. You'll make a lasting impact by building strong links with the community, encouraging families to engage, and planning programs that embed cultural, community and family values. As part of our NT leadership team, you'll report to our Regional Manager.

You will make an impact by:

  • Leading and developing a dedicated and driven professional team
  • Supporting the design, implementation and monitoring of early childhood and family support programs
  • Building relationships with the local community and confidence in the programs
  • Driving accurate monitoring, evaluation and reporting, in line with funder requirements
  • Mentoring, upskilling and developing a local workforce to enhance community engagement and program leadership
  • Advocating to increase the representation and prioritisation of children and families
  • Leading and participating in community development initiatives with community stakeholders

*We would encourage Darwin-based candidates to apply for this role as there is potential for the role to be offered on a FIFO basis.

Does this sound like you?
You're an enthusiastic and committed leader with demonstrated experience working in remote communities. You're proactive, creative and flexible in your approach to work with families and children, using a trauma-informed, strengths-based framework. Your knowledge of local culture and community will see you promote the benefits of Save the Children programs to engage families and build connections.

This role requires:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to nurture a cohesive team
  • Ability to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate programs
  • Experience working with high-risk families from diverse backgrounds, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
  • Understanding of early childhood education and development
  • A resilient and adaptive leader who can work in complex environments
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills with people from diverse backgrounds
  • A thorough understanding of remote communication technologies
  • Current valid driver's licence

Working at 54 reasons is more than just a job.
54 Reasons is proudly part of Save the Children Australia. We are a learning organisation that invests in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is approximately 1100 people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.

Our people work from both home and office, with important moments held in-person to foster belonging and support professional development.
