Role purpose

The key purpose of the Technical Business Analyst role is to analyse and translate business requirements to detailed technical specifications that guide the solution development process

Please note: This role is an initial 12 month fixed term contract.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements Elicitation:

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand their needs, goals, and objectives
  • Elicit and document detailed business requirements, ensuring a clear understanding of the desired outcomes

Analysis and Documentation:

  • Analyse and document business processes, systems, and workflows
  • Create process models, data models, and other relevant documentation to illustrate future states

Technical Solution Design:

  • Work with the project team to translate business requirements into technical specifications
  • Collaborate with architects and developers to design technical solutions that align with business objectives

Data Analysis:

  • Conduct data analysis to understand data structures, sources, and dependencies
  • Define data requirements and support data modeling efforts

Prototyping and Mockups:

  • Develop prototypes or mockups to demonstrate proposed system features or changes, as required
  • Gather feedback from stakeholders to refine and improve solution designs

User Acceptance Testing (UAT) Support:

  • Collaborate with business users to define UAT criteria and test cases
  • Assist in UAT execution, ensuring that the final solution meets business requirements

Risk Analysis:

  • Identify and assess potential risks associated with technical solutions
  • Work with the project team to develop risk mitigation strategies

Documentation Management:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation throughout the project lifecycle
  • Ensure that documentation is accessible to relevant stakeholders

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Facilitate communication between business and technical teams
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, and other project stakeholders to ensure a shared understanding of requirements

Change Management:

  • Support the change management process by identifying the impact of proposed changes on existing processes and systems
  • Assist in developing and implementing plans to manage the transition to new systems or processes

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and optimization
  • Provide feedback on lessons learned and contribute to the improvement of project methodologies

Training and Support:

  • Collaborate with training teams to develop materials and resources for end-users
  • Provide support during the implementation phase and address user queries or concerns

Alignment with Business Strategy:

  • Ensure that proposed technical solutions align with the overall business and IT strategy
  • Provide recommendations for technology or process improvements that support strategic goals

Capability and Experience

Business Analysis Skills:

  • Requirements Gathering: Proficient in techniques for eliciting and documenting business requirements, such as interviews, surveys, workshops, and use cases
  • Business Process Modelling: Ability to model and analyse business processes using tools like BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation)

Technical Proficiency:

  • Understanding of Systems Architecture: Familiarity with systems architecture and the ability to understand how different components of a system interact
  • Data Analysis: Ability to analyse data requirements and design data models
  • Technical Documentation: Proficient in creating detailed technical documentation, including specifications, data dictionaries, and system diagrams

Communication Skills:

  • Stakeholder Communication: Strong communication skills to facilitate effective communication between business stakeholders and the technical team
  • Documentation Skills: Clear and concise writing skills for creating comprehensive and understandable documentation
  • Presentation Skills: Ability to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences

Analytical Skills:

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyse complex business problems and propose effective solutions
  • Critical Thinking: The ability to think critically and evaluate the impact of proposed solutions on both business processes and technical systems

Project Management Skills:

  • Project Coordination: Ability to coordinate with project managers, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of projects
  • Timeline Management: Experience in managing timelines and ensuring that project milestones are met

Collaboration and Teamwork:

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including developers, QA teams, and business stakeholders
  • Team Facilitation: Experience in facilitating discussions and workshops to gather requirements and make decisions

Technical Knowledge:

  • Programming Knowledge: Basic understanding of programming languages and technologies would be beneficial
  • Database Understanding: Familiarity with database concepts and SQL queries
  • Integration Knowledge: Understanding of system integrations and API interactions

Quality Assurance:

  • Testing Knowledge: Understanding of testing processes and the ability to collaborate with QA teams to ensure that solutions meet specified requirements

Adaptability:

  • Adaptability to Change: Ability to adapt to changing project requirements, priorities, technologies, and business landscape

Industry and Domain Knowledge:

  • Industry Understanding: Familiarity with retail property management, including understanding market trends, competition, and regulatory considerations 
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Awareness of regulatory requirements that may impact business processes and technical solutions

Continuous Learning:

  • Stay Informed: Proactively stay informed about emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in business analysis

Education and Certifications:

  • Relevant Degree: A degree in business, information technology, or a related field
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications in business analysis or related areas (e.g. CBAP - Certified Business Analysis Professional)

Interpersonal Skills:

  • Negotiation and Conflict Resolution: Ability to negotiate priorities and resolve conflicts that may arise during the analysis process
