Berrigan Shire Council are seeking applications for Technical Officer – Building and Planning.
This position is responsible for performing mostly administrative duties with interaction with external customers including providing pre-application advice and collecting information from applicants wanting to lodge a development / building application via the NSW Portal.
Within the area of responsibility, this role is required to:
- Accurately assess and determine ‘simple’ applications (for example a residential/commercial outbuilding (shed).
- Write a concise and accurate report on a development for an application.
- Provide verbal (in person and over the phone) and written feedback to various people.
- Efficiently manage a caseload of ‘simple’ applications, pre-application advice requests, and issue decisions.
- Accurately summarise issues and relevant policy and provide an informed opinion.
- Be able to have a constructive and open conversation on a decision.
- Be accountable for their work, decisions and actions.
- Keep and maintain accurate record keeping.
- Work effectively, efficiently and autonomously (where required) virtually or in an open plan office, sometimes with limited immediate direct supervision.
- Undertake administrative tasks associated with the operation of the NSW Planning Portal.
Essential Requirements
- A valid Australian Drivers Licence.
- Ability to write accurate and concise reports and correspondence.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a range of internal and external customers.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team (both virtually and in an open-plan office) to provide accurate information within tight, and sometimes conflicting, timeframes.
This position is full-time, classified at Band 9 Entry Level under Council’s salary structure with a salary range of $62,929.05 and $68,587.06 per annum plus 11% statutory superannuation, 70-hour 9-day fortnight. Conditions are in accordance with Local Government (State) Award 2023.
