Curtin’s Faculty of Science and Engineering is a place where students and staff alike can apply their studies and research to real-world industry challenges. It is involved in a variety of high-impact teaching and research initiatives across several schools including School of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences.
Your new role
As a Technical Officer – Electrical Engineering, you will primarily support Electrical and Renewable Energy Laboratories and provide technical instructions, support and associated services for teaching and research programs.
You will play an important role in ensuring that occupational health and safety regulations and specific statutory requirements related to the area’s activities are followed.
To support research activities, you will assist in preparing and conducting tests, identify faults and troubleshoot equipment, problem solve and develop solutions for testing protocols, calibrate and maintain testing equipment.
No two days are the same, this is an active and engaging role where you will be able to put your strong problem-solving skills to the test.

You will bring to the role:
- A diploma level qualification relevant to Electrical Engineering discipline with considerable experience; or a post-trades certificate or advanced trade certificate and extensive experience as a technician.
- Working knowledge of AS/NZS 3000: Electrical Installations standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Occupational Health and Safety principles and practices.
- Demonstrated experience and skills in electrical and power electronics fields including the design, repairs, testing and commissioning of the wide range electric drives, controllers, motors to specified requirements.
- Demonstrated practical experience with PLC/SCADA systems and Industrial Communications Protocols.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively and professionally with staff and students at all levels.
- Demonstrated strong work ethics and the ability to work independently as well as effectively with others in a team.
Prior to the appointment, the preferred candidate will need to have:
- A-grade electrical workers licence.
