Appointment Pool

Burbridge School is seeking to establish a pool of Technical Officers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 1, 2025.

Suitable applicants will liaise with and assist school professional staff to design therapeutic and support/restraint equipment used by staff and students. Suitable applicants will construct, repair, and operate therapeutic and support/restraint equipment, and purchase consumables and materials related to the construction and maintenance of therapeutic and support equipment.

They will develop and uphold a maintenance plan, and routinely record maintenance activities, and ensure plant and machinery and related work site areas are kept securely locked, free from hazard and safe from unpermitted access. The role may require some general maintenance around the school grounds and premises. Suitable applicants will monitor and maintain swimming pool and/or spa water quality, equipment, and signage in accordance with Government standards, policies, and guidelines.

At Burbridge School, our specialist team of education support teachers and education assistants provide diverse, innovative, and specifically tailored learning programs for students in Kindergarten to Year 12 with special needs. Situated 15 km north of Perth in Koondoola, the school shares a site with the Koondoola Primary School. We also have a satellite class in the primary school which provides opportunities for students of both schools to engage in inclusive learning programs.

Our teaching programs are specifically designed to cater for the individual needs of every student. A high staff to student ratio in each classroom ensures our students enjoy a great degree of individual tuition, support, and care. Specialist education support teachers use their knowledge and expertise to deliver individualized, relevant, and meaningful curriculum that reflects specific student needs and develops the potential of every student. Qualified education assistants support learning in the classroom and local community and ensure students receive appropriate care. On-site nurses provide support and care for any students with medical needs.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Experience and competency in plant/machinery maintenance and building or construction involving plastics, electronics or electrical applications or a related discipline.
  • Understanding and application of the Occupational Safety and Health Act requirements relevant to the work area.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Organisational skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
