The are looking to appoint multiple Technical/Senior Technical Officer (Robotics Systems Engineer). This role is expected to utilise training, specialised technical expertise and scientific knowledge to contribute to the development, testing and deployment of ground and/or airborne robotics and related systems, with a particular focus on mechatronics systems design.
As a Technical/Senior Technical Officer, you will be required to design, deploy and manage research & development (R&D) projects in field robotic applications, and engage with industry partners and the public. You will provide Systems Engineering design and assist the project manager in the planning of technical tasks, management of associated risks, conducting field trials and technical report writing.
You will ensure that the workplace is properly maintained that all equipment is functioning correctly and that preventative work/maintenance protocols are in place for equipment along with being responsible for ensuring that relevant Work, Health and Safety standards of the workplace are met and are aligned to the University's WHS policy. There will be an expected requirement for occasional travel to rural areas within NSW and/or interstate supporting fieldwork operations in this role.
This opportunity is available at an HEO6 or HEO7 dependent on experience.

- tertiary qualifications in Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronic Engineering or related field
- demonstrated experience in design and development of mechatronics systems, preferably related to ground and/or airborne robotics and related systems
- demonstrated experience of data analysis, technical report and proposal writing skills
- proven ability to work without supervision, communicate effectively to both internal and external stakeholders, coordinate technical staff activities in the design, development and deployment of mechatronics and robotic systems
- demonstrated experience in conducting and coordinating field trials of robotic systems with external industry partners
- excellent attention to detail and awareness of issues related to dealing with commercially sensitive or confidential information
- excellent oral and written communication skills coupled with proven conflict resolution skills
- sound working knowledge and acute awareness of WHS regulations and operating procedures within the field laboratory environment including well-rounded experience in implementing relevant safety procedures
- previous experience in a similar research organisation, higher education/tertiary sector or at a complex, multi-faceted organisation will be a plus
- the ability to liaise effectively with both scientific/technical and non-technical colleagues and to write technical documents and user manuals relating to software and processes
- a valid NSW drivers' license, to travel to rural areas on an occasional basis.
