Job Summary:
The Technical Service Engineer is the primary contact with the customer for the purposes of monitoring the customer’s equipment and forecasting overhaul requirements based on the application, life cycle, and condition of the equipment.
You will play a crucial role in providing technical support and expertise to our clients including diagnosing, troubleshooting, resolving technical issues, recommending SOW and spare parts requirements for overhauls, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum operational efficiency for our customers.
Our equipment is installed in both municipal and industrial waste water treatment plants of varied conditions therefore life cycle from new or between overhauls is also varied.
The Technical Service Engineer is responsible to liaise with the customer to determine level of overhaul, items (parts) required, workshop availability and duration to minimise the impact on the customer’s plant operation.
On defining the SOW, you will provide a thorough quotation to the customer with the aim to secure customer order for the overhaul, or spare parts at a minimum.
Your role will involve domestic travel as the equipment is installed throughout Australia. Occasional travel overseas may be required. (Australian Passport required)
Education & Experience requirements:
- Trade Certificate - Fitting and Machining
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a technical support or service engineering role, preferably in the water / waste-water sector.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think analytically in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Hands-on experience with industrial equipment, spare parts, and maintenance practices.
- Familiarity with OEM manuals and technical drawing interpretation.
- Willingness to travel for on-site customer visits and training sessions locally and interstate.
Skills required to be successful in the role:
- Ability to interpret drawings and BOMs, customer conditions and applications.
- Attention to detail.
- High degree of learning skills (including the 4C’s – critical thinking, creative thinking, communicating, collaborating).
- Ability to work in a team.
- High level of communication skills via phone, email and face to face.
- Ability to form and maintain healthy relationships with customers, prospects & work colleagues.
- Technical proficiency in MS WORD / EXCEL and CRM
- Inventory and sales software exposure.
Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support to customers via phone, email, or on site visits, diagnosing and troubleshooting issues related to spare parts and equipment overhauls.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including sales, engineering, and contractors, to ensure timely delivery and resolution of customer inquiries and technical issues.
- Conduct product demonstrations and training sessions for clients to ensure proper installation, operation, and maintenance of spare parts and equipment.
- Perform site visits to assess equipment performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and recommend appropriate spare parts or technical solutions.
- Generate technical reports, documentation, and recommendations for customers and internal stakeholders, documenting troubleshooting processes and solutions.
- Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices to continuously improve technical knowledge and expertise.
- Assist in the development and testing of new spare parts and products, providing valuable feedback and insights based on customer interactions and experiences.
- Collaborate with the sales team to identify opportunities for up selling or cross-selling additional spare parts and services to existing clients.
- Liaise with OEM’s for parts details, price and availability for quoting purposes.
