Job Description
As part of this opportunity, the successful candidate will be required to perform the following:
- Assist in the provision of a high level of microbiological service to tropical food industries. This includes media presentations, QC and QA practices, routine microbiological examinations, calculations, and documentation of results in compliance with the laboratories NATA accreditation for biological testing.
- Maintain general housekeeping of the laboratory; including cleaning and decontamination, and equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Assist in the planning and conducting of laboratory diagnostic testing following standard methods.
- Assist in effective sample management from receival through to culture interpretation and provision of analysis reports for clients.
- Maintain records, both hard copy and electronic; including entering analytical data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Assist in the identification of client needs and advice on appropriate services, quoting in accordance with the prescribed fee schedule.
- Assist in the laboratory with media preparation, waste decontamination, wash-up, and other laboratory tasks as required.
Essential Requirements to this role are:
- Diploma, or interest in completing studies towards a minimum of a Diploma level qualification, in Science, Applied Science or similar field from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Hold a current driver’s licence.
- Microbiological skills or experience working in a NATA accredited laboratory.
- Ability to apply knowledge, skills and experience in laboratory food and water microbiology diagnostic
methods to perform the job at a high level of accomplishment. - Ability to work cooperatively as a team player to solve problems quickly and effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively (both written and oral) with internal and external clients to provide
responsive, accurate and relevant information and services. - Ability to establish priorities and organise work flow to meet strict deadlines and produce quality
outcomes.
Term of Engagement
This position is from the Mid February to 30th June 2024 with the possibility of an extension.
Pay Rate
- TO2: $43.57 to $51.34 per hour
- OO2: $36.45 to $39.39 per hour
- OO3: $39.98 to $42.47 per hour
