The Trade Connections and Events Manager is responsible for connecting export-ready Tasmanian businesses with opportunities through Tasmania’s international business development network and global programs. The Trade Connections and Events function within the Trade and International Relations unit delivers impactful trade missions and tradeshows, maximises in-market opportunities for Tasmanian businesses through the international business development network and facilitates priority inbound trade visits. The position is responsible for ensuring a strong return on investment from trade activities and programs and considers in-market after-care activity.

Period of AppointmentAppointment to the role is on a fixed term flexible (up to 73.5 hours per fortnight) basis until 30 June 2025.
Duties- Lead the Trade Connections and Events team including the development and engagement of staff, the management of team and individual performance.
- Proactively create tangible connections for Tasmanian businesses in broad and focused markets through the International Business Development Network (IBDN) which consists of three Tasmanian Trade Advocates (Japan, Republic of Korea and USA) and one Business Development Manager (China).
- Provide strategic advice on Tasmania’s IBDN and expansion opportunities, while overseeing the Trade Advocate servicing model (including contractual management, reporting and day-to-day coordination of projects across government and industry).
- Strategically target and develop relations with global economic/trade development associations to support in building new Connections And delivering in-market activities.
- Lead the development and delivery of targeted trade missions that enhance Tasmania’s international relations and export opportunities for Tasmanian businesses in collaboration with the IBDN.
- Oversee the consistent delivery of unique ‘Tasmanian’ on-site event experiences for the division at key domestic and international tradeshows, that innovatively captures new in-market connections while maintaining brand consistency.
- Manage the facilitation of priority inbound domestic and international trade visits across key sectors that strategically integrates multiple trade agendas and showcases the best of Tasmania.
- Lead a dedicated after-care program post tradeshows, missions and other in-market activity to support Tasmanian businesses in converting trade opportunities and maintaining connections.
- Professionally represent the Tasmanian Government and develop swift rapport with key internal and external stakeholders and support their active contribution to Trade Connections and Events programs to ensure in-market activity is maximised.
- Prepare accurate and timely responses to ministerial and executive requests including event briefs, correspondence, speech notes and media releases.
- Perform any other assigned duties at the classification level that are within the employee’s competence and training.
- Relevant tertiary and/or industry recognised qualifications and affiliations
- Experienced in international business relations
- International event/project experience is advantageous
- A current driver’s licence
