About the Division / Team
Our Hunter Valley network primarily services the Hunter Valley coal chain – the world’s largest thermal coal export operation – by providing an efficient and reliable rail transportation system between mines and the Port of Newcastle. We manage the movement of around 250 trains per day on our network. Around half of these being coal trains and the other half comprised of passenger services, as well as grain, general intermodal, and other bulk freight trains.
About the Opportunity
Ensure the operational integrity and efficiency of a designated section of rail corridor by assisting qualified Signal Electricians in day to day activities.
Install, modify, maintain and repair signalling and communication equipment, in accordance with technical maintenance plans, signalling discipline standards, practices and safeworking procedures
Examine and test signalling equipment in accordance with signalling standards, diagnose and isolate faults, and ensure that appropriate certificates are submitted
Install and maintain mechanical signalling locking, and interlocking devicesInfrastructure and equipment
Maintain aerial signal/telecommunications lines and cables
Attend to emergencies and irregularities and ensure that equipment is promptly and safety returned to service
Participate in projects and undertake other duties as requested
To ensure success in this position, applicants will be able to demonstrate:
Relevant trade or technical experience
Knowledge and ability to implement the principles of rail safety management, OHS principles and electrical codes of practice
Experience in fault finding, maintenance and repairs
Sound communication skills both written and oral
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
Customer service focus
Drivers Licence – Class C
Desirable Selection Criteria
Detailed knowledge of telemetry and computer interlocking systems
Current AUSTEL / ACA license
Hand signalling and Worksite Protection Class 3
