We are looking for motivated and talented people to join our Cadet Program as Assistant Research Officers (Cadet). Multiple positions are available. The Cadet Program:
- is a great opportunity to build your personal and professional skills and experience while learning about the many areas of Treasury’s business, the Tasmanian State sector and how governments operate;
- provides you with the opportunity to be directly involved in a range of issues relating to public policy, the economy, the State Budget, financial management, administration and regulatory frameworks; and
- gives you a tailored learning and development program and access to other cadets, mentors and experienced professionals to support your future growth.

About the Cadet ProgramTreasury’s Cadet Program is a great way to fast track your career and learn new skills.
While participating in the program you will work in a variety of business areas (generally moving to a different area of Treasury every 12 months). The time it takes you to complete your cadetship depends on how much University study you have completed on entry to the program, and any relevant previous work experience. The maximum time is 6 years on the program before being offered a permanent placement. You will receive paid time off work to attend lectures, tutorials, and exams, over and above normal leave entitlements.
The opportunity to join our program is not limited to a particular degree. We recognise the specific knowledge and skills provided through study in different disciplines together with the broader skills that are developed through work and life experiences are valuable to our organisation and the public service.

To be eligible for our program, you must be currently studying, or prior to starting your cadetship be enrolled in, an undergraduate degree course at a tertiary institution. We are open to considering a wide range of study disciplines.
People that have completed an undergraduate degree or are undertaking an Honours, Masters or PhD degree are not eligible for the program.
You must be eligible to work full-time and study part-time and you must at all times hold and comply with all visa requirements as determined by the Department of Home Affairs and the Migration Act 1958 if you are not an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
