The City Of Wanneroo Trees & Conservation Team has an exiting newly created position of Tree Officer - Urban Forest and is looking for someone that is passionate about nature and environmental conservation and wants to make a positive impact on the health and well-being of the City's Urban Forest. As part of our dedicated team, you'll play a crucial role in nurturing and safeguarding our Urban Forest, contributing to the sustainability and beauty of Wanneroo in line with the City's Urban forest Strategy.

About the position

The City is seeking someone with knowledge and experience in the analysis, design, documentation, and implementation of planting programs. As a pivotal member of our team, you'll align your efforts with the City's Urban Forest strategy, driving initiatives that enhance biodiversity, improve air quality, and enrich the overall urban landscape.

Key Accountabilities for the position are as follows:

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates detailed tree planting plans that aligns with the objectives in Urban Forest Strategy, including onsite assessment, use of spatial mapping and internal/external liaison with impacted stakeholders.
  • Liaises with customers and stakeholders to deliver service excellence, ensuring that information is accurate, consistent, clearly communicated and issues are resolved in a timely manner for tree planting related enquiries.
  • Coordinates designated tree maintenance and procurement contracts, including contributing to the development of technical specifications and the procurement process, ensuring that the delivery of contracts meets contractual specifications and obligations.
  • Coordinates the delivery of tree stock, planting, watering, establishment, and scheduled maintenance of newly planted trees.
  • Updates the City's Geographic Information System mapping program with newly planted tree assets.

About you

As a collaborative member of the Trees & Conservation Maintenance team, working with many different stakeholders the position is accountable for planning and implementing the City's annual tree planting program in line with the objectives in the Urban Forest Strategy.

They will also thrive working in a very busy and change driven organisation. As such, applicants must be able to demonstrate through their CV and covering letter that they meet the following capabilities:

Essential

  1. Certificate IV or higher; in relevant discipline such as Arboriculture, Horticulture or equivalent is required.
  2. Relevant experience in working with multifaceted projects with a strong emphasis on tree planting and watering is required.
  3. Intermediate experience in the efficient utilisation of information systems and technology is required.
  4. C class Driver's License is required.
  5. Understanding of arboriculture practices and tree species knowledge and tree planting design skills relating to trees in a street and parkland setting.
  6. Proficient in GIS mapping software, including spatial analysis, data visualization, and map creation abilities.
  7. Intermediate computing, numeracy and literacy skills.
  8. Intermediate organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
  9. Advanced customer service skills.
  10. Advanced communication and problem-solving skills.
  11. Intermediate research and analysis skills.
  12. Intermediate negotiation and influencing skills.
  13. Knowledge of the practical application of occupational health and safety measures in the workplace, including operations where interaction with members of the public may be reasonably expected to occur.

Desirable

  1. Basic Worksite Traffic Management.
  2. Current Working with Children Check.
  3. Qualifications in project management.
  4. Experience in preparation of quotation and Tender specifications.
  5. An understanding of Local Government operations and/or local government experience.
