Are you an encouraging leader who is dedicated to keeping your crew and vessel safe at all times? If so, we have an opportunity for a Tug Master to join our team in Port Melbourne on a rostered permanent full-time basis.
What You Will Do
Reporting to the Port Manager, this position offers you the opportunity to demonstrate your leadership skills and take responsibility for the safety of the crew and vessel at all times. Your key responsibilities in this position will include:
Taking command of the tug and its crew
Act as tug manager and coordinating the attendance of crew as required for operations, the provision of stores, and ensuring readiness for operations
Compliance with policies and procedures authorised by Svitzer and consistent with statutory obligations including quality assurance and ISM procedures
Managing crew discipline, dealing with issues as appropriate and escalating to local management where required
Supervision and assistance with tug maintenance as necessary
Preparation of operational reports as required
Induction training of visitors, employees, and other authorised personnel
Leading and motivating the vessel crew on familiarisation and compliance with the safety management system
Participation in safety training and operational improvement exercises
Compliance with roster arrangements and standing orders
Participation in skills and competency training including the training of other crew members, and trainees
