What we are looking for?
The Council’s Operations Department is looking for two dedicated individuals for the position of Turf Management Officer. The position is responsible for the maintenance of sporting reserves, golf courses and high profile horticulture sites across Frankston City Council.
The main responsibilities will include:
- Carry out turf maintenance, renewal and renovation works in accordance with works programs and industry standards to ensure sporting reserves and golf courses retain high quality, playable surfaces.
- In conjunction with your Team Leader and work colleagues, develop and implement Turf Management works programs to ensure service standards are met.
- Undertake audits and risk assessments and assist the Team Leader in implementing solutions to ensure playing surfaces, sporting infrastructure and public safety risks are rectified.
- Carry out any necessary cleansing activities including the collection of litter and removal of graffiti from all open spaces, sporting reserves and recreation areas within your team’s control.
This is a permanent full-time role working 38 hours per week.
About you
You bring to the role a Certificate III or similar qualification in Turf Management combined with experience in the maintaining turf in parks, sporting reserves, recreation areas or golf courses. Working as part of a close knit team, as well as autonomously at times, you have the ability to prioritise your work to meet management works programs.
The role will also see you take on the mentorship of others within the team and assist the team leader with supervision of a small team to plan and direct their work.
The position also requires a
- Knowledge and experience in application of fertiliser, herbicide, fungicide and insecticide to maintain turf areas in healthy condition.
- Ability to use a variety of horticulture and Turf Management tools, plant and mechanical equipment.
- Ability to carry out audits of Council parks and facilities.
- A current Victorian Driver Licence
- A strong understanding of safe work practices.
Whilst not necessary for the role, the following qualifications would be most advantageous:
- Agricultural Chemical Users Certificate.
- Medium Rigid Truck Licence (manual transmission).
- Front End Loader/Tractor Licence

This position is a Band 3 currently remunerated at $66,181 per annum plus superannuation.
