The Opportunity

Exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Valuations Manager to join TelstraSuper’s Investment Operations Team. Reporting to Group Head of Finance & Investment Operations, this role is responsible for the end-to-end investments valuation process within TelstraSuper and will ensure that assets held by the Fund are appropriately valued. 

This critical role will involve collaborating with third party investment managers and internal business units to ensure that valuations are accurate, up-to-date and can be relied upon to support strategic decision-making and regulatory compliance obligations.

As a leader in the Investment Operations team, building relationships and providing insights and subject matter expertise to key stakeholders is an important function of the role.  You will take the lead and be seen as a trusted and professional valuer, providing advice and support to the Investment Committee and Valuations Committee in relation to the adoption of investment valuations. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Build relationships with and monitor external investment managers to ensure that the fund is comfortable with external investment managers’ valuation processes, engaging with these managers to make improvements and out-of-cycle valuations where necessary
  • Ensure Fund adherence to regulated valuation standards and guidelines, as well as accepted industry practices
  • Provide expertise and guidance on valuation-related matters to Board Committees and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure effective governance and integrity of the valuations framework
  • Proactively monitor investment markets to identify triggers for reviewing valuations.
  • Responsible for submission of valuation data to regulators in accordance with prescribed standards
  • Prepare and submit Board and/or Committee reports and other regulatory paperwork as required

About You

You excel in interpreting financial statements, interpreting financial and economic data considered by valuations, and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the accurate valuation of assets.   Familiar with analytic platforms like Factset and Private I is advantageous. Your ability to lead discussions, communicate effectively with senior stakeholders and make timely decisions in complex scenarios will be essential. Attention to detail, strong report writing and presentation and strong knowledge of regulatory requirements.

Additionally, You Have

  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, Economics. MBA or CFA preferred.
  • Proven experience in a valuation or valuation governance role at a super fund, fund manager, investment bank or other similar organisation
