One Youth and Family Support Worker role must be filled by a person who identifies as part of the Transgender and/or Gender Diverse Community.
As an Open Doors Team Member, you will be accountable for providing 1 on 1 Support and community based early intervention services to LGBTIQ+ young people aged 12 - 18 in a variety of areas including but not limited to: housing, alcohol and other drug support, gender identity, connection to community etc.
You will work closely with young people and families to improve engagement with family, education, training, employment and their communities.
Key responsibilities of the roles may include:
- Providing individual support to young LGBTIQ+ people through Case Management
- Delivering groups for young LGBTIQ+ people to increase connection to peers and community
- Establish and facilitate school-based support groups for young LGBTIQ+ people
- Develop referral networks and pathways to be accessed safely by young LGBTIQ+ people and their families
- Working in culturally appropriate ways at all times with young LGBTIQ+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy people including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander young people and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse young people and families.
- Coordinating intake appointments, conducting psychosocial intake assessments, supporting young people into Open Doors Youth Service Programs based on their needs,
- Weekend work may be required as part of a role (4 hours max per fortnight as standard)
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience in a similar position delivering goal oriented interventions to vulnerable young people and their families
- Robust understanding of the issues young LGBTIQ+ people and their families face within systems and communities
- Experience in successfully engaging key stakeholders to ensure safe, appropriate care coordination for young people and their families
- Experience in developing and executing successful group programs and frameworks for vulnerable young people and their families
- Experience provide support to parents and carers of young vulnerable people to maintain connection and engagement through the Case Management process

Open Doors Youth Service has been in operation since 2001 providing support to young people who identify as part of the LGBTIQ+ community and their families. We support young people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Asexual, Pansexual, Sistergirl and Brotherboy aged 12 - 24 across South East Queensland.
This is an exciting time to join Open Doors Youth Service. Over recent years, we have been building our capabilities and services to better cater to the unique needs of young LGBTIQ+ folks in our community. We are a small, but growing group of passionate people who work together to better the lives of our young people.
