Job description

Located in our Dandenong South warehouse, the Warehouse and Logistics Manager will be responsible for leading, managing and improving day-to-day warehouse operations and logistics. This role will lead a close-knit team of four full time employees and up to three casual staff (during peak periods). 

This newly created role will be integral in supporting SSR’s growth strategy. The role will lead the team though planned changes including a proactive approach to the development and streamlining of processes, nurturing the growth and development of team member skills plus the management of end-to-end logistics, ensuring efficient and cost-effective delivery to our stakeholders.

Key responsibilities.

Management

  • Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO), and the wider warehouse team, to develop and implement industry best practice in warehouse operations – i.e., item location mapping, introduction of barcodes, transition from paper-based picking to tablets etc. 
  • Lead and mentor a young and vibrant team to further develop skills and reach performance goals, both within the warehouse and in the use of new technology.
  • Running of daily meetings, discussion of, and delegating all tasks for the day.
  • Provide continued support and direction to warehouse personnel to ensure all staff have a clear understanding of their daily tasks and organisational goals.
  • Create and maintain a positive working environment.
  • Ensure warehouse personnel are competently trained in their role and responsibilities and are proficient in performing the duties allocated to them.
  • Assist in the recruitment of new employees, if required.
  • Develop, manage, and improve warehouse operations, layout, systems, and procedures.
  • Actively ensure the compliance of safety standards and regulations, safe storage and handling practices within the warehouse.
  • Management of staffing requirements in line with rosters, wage expenses and performance KPIs.

Operational

  • Management of daily operations within the warehouse, including administrative and ad-hoc duties.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory accuracy and stock condition though cycle counts, conducting regular audits and bi-annual stocktakes to ensure that inventory is correct and accurate at all times.
  • Oversee dispatch activities and assisting staff with picking of orders when required.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and facility upkeep to OH&S standards.
  • Oversee the management of logistics/transport operations and systems including statewide freight requirements to meet stakeholder expectations.
  • Work closely with existing logistics providers and actively source new supply chain relationships.
  • Implementation of delivery efficiencies, ensuring cost-effectiveness for organisation. 
  • Manage regular (daily/weekly) stock replenishment and re-loading of pick bins – no bins should ever be completely empty. 
  • Coordination of order fulfilment, monitor accuracy of picking and packing and oversee quality control. 
  • Requisition and maintenance of warehouse materials and consumables as required (including, but not limited to wrapping / strapping materials and freight supplies).
  • Review, recommend and implement improvements to workflow productivity. 
  • Monitor and report on results to the leadership team.

Qualifications, skills and experience required.

  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar role as a Warehouse Manager.
  • Certificate IV in warehouse operations & inventory control.
  • Forklift, Victorian (or Australian equivalent) Driver's License and picker’s license.
  • Strong and proven ability to lead, direct and manage a team of diverse employees.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • A commitment to upholding safety and quality standards and a sound understanding of OH&S regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to meet deadlines and works well under pressure.
  • Sound knowledge in warehouse procedures/policies.
  • Proven experience in implementing process improvement and change management.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Great time management skills and the ability to prioritise.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills.
  • Self-starter attitude with the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Continuous improvement approach. 
  • Strong strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Passion for helping others and customer service focussed.
  • Previous warehouse, pick and packing experience; and
  • RF Scanning experience would be desirable.
