A local government organisation seeking a Waste Officer to join their growing team based close to the heart of Sydney.
Your new role
In your new role as the Waste Officer, you will drive operational efficiency in waste services at City buildings by identifying improvement opportunities and effectively engaging stakeholders involved. Implementation of recycling initiatives that will contribute towards achieving our operational waste goals and improve overall sustainability outcomes.
The main duties will be:
Management of day-to-day waste operation activities and requests for the City's own buildings.
Overseeing waste contract management, including waste audits and SLM (Service Level Management) tracking.
Responding to requests through effective stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills.
Assisting in accurate and timely reporting on waste operation targets.
Collaborate with stakeholders, to identify opportunities for process improvement.
Implementing recycling initiatives that align with operational targets and improve overall sustainability outcomes.
What you'll need to succeed
Tertiary qualifications in sustainability, environmental management, or related field and/or significant experience in sustainability positions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at various levels.
Highly developed skills and prior experience using Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
Demonstrated stakeholder engagement skills and strength of character to deal effectively with difficult stakeholders.
A strong focus on sustainability and a passion for driving positive environmental outcomes.
A degree in a related field or equivalent experience in a similar role.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and address process inefficiencies.
