About the Position 

An exciting opportunity exists within our Human Resource team for an experienced Work Health and Safety (WHS) Business Partner, with a positive attitude and a great work ethic, to join the WHS team on a maximum term full-time basis for 12 months.  

Reporting to the Service Lead Work Health and Safety (WHS), you will be responsible for supporting the Service Lead in the implementation of a comprehensive work health and safety framework and to partner with the business leadership team to facilitate coordination of planning, performance and improvement initiatives within the health and safety function of the City.  

You will help to identifying business needs from a workplace health, safety and risk management perspective and review of existing workplace health and safety programs and tools. This will include work health and safety systems; policies and procedures; and encompasses safety, workers compensation, injury management and health and wellbeing. 

Key Responsibilities 

The duties of the Workplace Health and Safety will include but are not limited to: 

  • Working in partnership with directorates and stakeholders to develop, implement, improve and maintain the City’s safety management system standards and apply in alignment their WHS risk profile. 
  • Be a point of contact on WHS matters and provide relevant operational and strategic advice. 
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and provide expert advice on safety matters 
  • Coaching and mentoring people leaders and managers on WHS matters to achieve positive change in workplace health and safety. 
  • Building strong stakeholder relationships to assist in achieving organisational objectives.

About You 

The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don’t tick all the boxes, you could still be a perfect fit for this role. Please apply, all applications will be considered. 

  • Relevant WHS qualification (Certificate IV) or significant experience in a similar WHS role in a large and complex organisation. 
  • Thorough understanding of current health and safety issues and extensive experience in the interpretation and practical application of relevant WHS and related legislation, standards, guidelines, and statutory requirements, as it relates to the local government sector. 
  • Knowledge of the management of workers’ compensation claims process and experience in the development of suitable return to work plans. 
  • Self-motivated with strong organisational skills and able to work independently on multiple activities, prioritise and adapt to changing conditions. 
  • Competency in workplace investigations, problem solving and decision making with ICAM lead investigator or incident investigation training and experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor managers on people matters and provoke positive change in people development.

This temporary full-time position is a Level 8 Inside Workforce Agreement positions which attract a salary from $103,131 - $108,559 gross pro rata per annum plus superannuation. 

To be eligible to work for us, you need to provide, or have ability obtain a: 

  • A copy of Australian driving licence 
  • National Police Clearance (valid within the last 3 months)
  • Pre-Employment Medical and DAS clearance 
  • The right to work in Australia
