- Work in partnership with managers and staff to promote and drive a positive safety culture.
- Provide information and guidance, implement and monitor strategies, systems and processes to enable the region to comply with Workplace Health and Safety legislation.
- Provide an advisory service for management and staff on matters relating to workplace health and safety.
- Provide expert advice to management and staff on all matters pertaining to the prevention of accidents, a wide range of hazard identification and control, promotion of health and safety, environmental and risk issues as they relate to students, staff and contractors.
- Actively contribute to the development and implementation of Work Health and Safety practices and procedures.
- In consultation with the Director, implement, monitor and review relevant policies, procedures, standards and systems to ensure efficient and effective workplace health and safety processes and practices are maintained.
- Establish, co-ordinate and maintain procedures, systems and registers for workplace health and safety audits, environmental audits, first aid training and delivery and personal safety. Maintain accurate and updated first aid supplies,
- Undertake proactive risk assessments in the field of Workplace Health and Safety, identify and deliver safety related training needs and conduct appropriate educational programs in workplace health and safety including induction, evacuation, floor warden and safety committee training.
- Facilitate the Region’s workplace health and safety network meetings, including preparing and circulating committee meeting agenda’s and minutes.
- Carry out risk assessments in the field and report on inspections at all campuses to ensure safe work practices and environments are maintained, undertake the evaluation of the use of safety equipment and chemicals and develop and implement emergency procedures for all areas of the Institute.
- Ensure that all accident, injuries, illnesses and occurrences are investigated in a timely manner, accurate records are kept according to legislative requirements and ensure follow up on accident/injury investigations and actions. Ensure any incident learnings and alerts are circulated to key stakeholders.
- Support WHS processes for student work placement including assessments, risk management, injuries and insurance claims.
- Model and actively promote an ethical and safe work environment that supports a culture of zero harm and best practice regarding health, safety, wellness and sustainability.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, promote and implement workplace health and safety strategies including incident investigation and reporting, health and safety auditing and hazard management.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate, deliver and evaluate workplace health and safety training programs, polices, procedures and initiatives to meet legislative, client and organisational needs.
- Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills including the ability to liaise with and advise senior management, staff at all levels and external agencies.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to the delivery of high quality customer service in supporting organisational Work Health and Safety.
- Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety
- Certificate IV Workplace Training and Assessment
- Workplace Health and Safety Incident Investigations and Response
- Current QLD drivers licence
