Primary objective
Provide high level advice and consultancy services to support the maintenance, ongoing improvement and promotion of the Department
of Infrastructure Planning and Logistics Work Health and Safety (WHS) management.
Context statement
The business improvement unit provides customer focused services through a consultancy and practiced approach. The position will
provide high level advice and strategic solutions working closely with executive and senior management to proactively assist with Work
Health and Safety, workers compensation and injury management.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop and implement the Departments WHS Management system and provide continual improvement of systems that support
compliance with WHS legislation.
2. Provide high level advice, guidance and coaching to clients on a range of WHS matters.
3. Provide advice and support on complex workers compensation, rehabilitation, injury management and return to work programs.
4. Assist in the provision of training and development specific to WHS programs.
5. Complete and provide advice on WHS assessments across the agency as required (i.e. ergonomic workplace assessments, incident
reports etc.)
6. Undertake analysis and planning to provide reporting for central agencies and prepare submissions to Executive members, CEO and
Governance boards on WHS matters.
7. Develop implement and maintain specialist material include policy and online resources to support all aspects of WHS management,
workers compensation claims and early intervention across the agency.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive experience and knowledge in Work Health and Safety Management particularly in developing and implementing Work
Health and Safety Systems.
2. High level written and verbal communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills with sound conceptual, analytical and research
skills.
3. Proven ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation in a Work Health and Safety environment.
4. Proven experience in the management of complex workers compensation, rehabilitation, injury management and return to work
matters.
5. Demonstrated planning, problem solving and organisational skills including the capacity to successfully handle multiple, complex and
high priority tasks concurrently.
6. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain key relationships with clients, team members and WHS committees to positively
influence Work Health and Safety practices
Desirable
1. Relevant tertiary qualification in Work Health Safety Management or a related field and Training and Assessment
2. Knowledge and understanding of the Department of Infrastructure Planning and Logistics’ structure and business.
