Job description

Twenty10 incorporating GLCS NSW provides a broad range of specialised services for LGBTIQA+ people and people of diverse genders, sexualities and intersex status including; housing, mental health, counselling and social supports for young people, counselling and social support services to adults, and inclusivity training and consultation for organisations and service providers across most sectors.

Twenty10 is a Sydney based service working across New South Wales, providing a broad range of specialised services for young people 12-25 including housing, mental health, counselling and social support. For adults we provide social support, and for people of all ages we offer telephone support and webchat as the NSW provider for the national QLife project. We also offer inclusivity training and consulting for organisations and service providers across most sectors.

The Youth Services Officer - Housing is a permanent, part-time role, 72 hours per fortnight, paid at SCHADS L4, working office hours.

The role is based in Inner Sydney and commences early to mid September.

As part of the Client Services Team (CST), they share responsibility for client intake, short-term case management to service users not in the housing program, referrals and support across all client activities, as well as providing specialist information to a wide range of stakeholders. They work within a person-centred, trauma-informed practice framework to provide safer spaces and opportunities for LGBTIQA+ young people. The role is responsible for the timely management of service user files and data. All CST staff are provided with individual supervision, clinical consultation and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications and Prerequisites

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or training in community services, social sciences, youth work or related health field, demonstrated work experience in a similar role or discipline, and/or minimum of 3 years experience in case management
  • Completion of ASIST training in the last 3 years or willingness to complete
  • Completion of current First Aid training or willingness to complete
  • Current NSW Working with Children Check clearance
  • Current NSW Driver's License

Experience Required

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the current issues affecting LGBTIQA+ young people, including mental health and homelessness
  • Demonstrated experience providing support to vulnerable people, particularly young people who are LGBTIQA+ at risk of homelessness or marginalisation, their parents, caregivers and families
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of working within a youth engagement, therapeutic and anti-oppressive framework with young people, families and groups. Including but not limited to:
    • co-design, youth engagement and participation
    • community development and social inclusion
    • trauma-informed care and person-centred practice
    • strengths-based and harm-minimisation principles
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to safeguarding children and other vulnerable people
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and culturally diverse communities
  • Willingness and ability to sometimes work outside of normal business hours and to travel for short periods if required

Computer Skills

  • Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel) and internet applications
  • Demonstrated experience in working with client data management systems CRM database

Aptitude & Interpersonal Skills

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport with a wide range of people including different genders, sexual orientations, ethnical backgrounds, age and experience
  • Strong reflective practice and self-care skills, with a commitment to maintaining currency of skills and knowledge
  • Strong initiative and demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, and ability for conceptual and strategic problem solving
