About the role
This position plays a key role in supporting Townsville CityLibraries to achieve deliverables in the Townsville City Council Reconciliation Action Plan. This position manages all daily issues associated with the delivery of specialised Learning and Information Services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, which includes delivery of culturally appropriate programs and services, development of networks and partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community groups, other libraries and archives, and the promotion and use of relevant family history resources held by Townsville CityLibraries.
The role is responsible for the delivery of Learning and Information Services in accordance with the Library Services Strategic Plan and works as part of the Learning and Information Services Team. The work of this team is in the delivery of learning and information services to library customers and the wider community. Learning programs for younger people include: early literacy programs to preschool children, programs for school-aged children and young adults, as well as school holiday programs. For adults, there are programs to connect readers with the library collection, local history programs, general lifestyle programs, and programs for customers with special needs, including the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) community. The Learning and Information Services team also provide specialist information services through the history and heritage team and the corporate research service, as well as general information services to meet the identified needs of the community.
Townsville CityLibraries is a 7 day a week operation with varying opening hours across our branches and outreach delivery, including evenings and weekends.
About you
Our ideal candidate will have:
- It is a genuine occupational requirement of this position that it be filled by an Aboriginal and Torres Islander person as permitted by Section 25 and 104 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
- Associate degree or Associate diploma in relevant discipline, such as cultural studies, community development, library studies, social sciences, or relevant discipline, with at least five years of experience working in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
- Current Working with Children Blue Card.
- Intermediate level negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- High level skills and focus on understanding a wide range of customer needs and offering services that enhance the customer’s experience.
- High level ability and enthusiasm to learn new processes, practices and procedures which support the high-end delivery of a quality customer experience.
- High level skills in research, analysis and written and oral communication, with the ability to communicate to a variety of audiences where information is well articulated and easily understood by all with a demonstrated experience in tailoring communication to meet the needs of these customers and/or suppliers.
- Demonstrated experience in working in a team environment and supporting team outputs to achieve high quality outcomes through a collaborative approach, whilst applying a learning philosophy within the delivery of service.
- Excellent time management practices that support efficient practice.
- Demonstrated high level experience and ability to engage with and build strong business partnering networks with a view to building strong consultative relationships.
- Work on weekends and evenings will be required.
