What you'll be doing
The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.
The overall purpose of this position is to improve the uptake of vaccination amongst First Nations People living in our District, which stretches from the City of Sydney to the Royal National Park.
The highest priority is to support First Nations families and their health providers to vaccinate bubs and children on time. To improve vaccination uptake the Aboriginal Immunisation Health Worker needs to build good relationships with community and other Aboriginal Health Workers.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

  • Holds or is willing to enrol for the Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care or a relevant area of health care; or equivalent work experience in health or community services.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with First Nations communities in Australia with ability, willingness and commitment to engage First Nations peoples and communities living in South Eastern Sydney Local Health District.
  • Computer skills, including using Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Teams, Powerpoint and Outlook) and preferred experience working on spreadsheets or with databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to organise tasks, assign priorities and meet deadlines as well as demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel across the District.
