Appointment Pool

Bramfield Park Primary School (PS) and Yule Brook College are seeking to establish a pool of Aboriginal Islander Education Officers (AIEO) for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2026. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 1, 2026.

Bramfield Park Primary School and Yule Brook College, located in Maddington, Western Australia, are seeking dedicated and culturally sensitive individuals to join our team as a Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEO). This is a unique opportunity to possibly work across two school sites and contribute to the academic and cultural growth of Indigenous students.

The AIEO plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our Indigenous students. As a liaison between the school and community, the AIEO works closely with teachers, students, and families to develop culturally responsive educational programs that empower our Indigenous students to reach their full potential.

Through mentoring and pastoral care, the AIEO provides support and guidance to Indigenous students to encourage participation and achievement in the classroom. With a deep understanding of Indigenous culture and history, the AIEO brings a unique perspective to the school community, promoting respect, understanding and harmony.

In addition to providing support to teachers and students, the AIEO also works closely with the local Indigenous community to facilitate their involvement in shaping school policies and programs, and participating in events, programs and activities that promote cultural awareness, If you are passionate about Indigenous education and culture, and are looking for a rewarding and challenging role, we invite you to join our team as an AIEO and help us to empower our Indigenous students to reach their full potential.

Bramfield Park PS and Yule Brook College are located in Maddington and cater for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. There is a strong focus on achievement, academic excellence, engagement, developing social skills and wellbeing at both schools, with access to a social and emotional curriculum, student services and local support agencies. Academic achievement is encouraged through the implementation of the Western Australian Curriculum Outline K-10, the Big Picture Learning Program, intervention programs and individualised learning plans.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively interact with students, teachers, parents, community members and professional staff on the provision and development of educational programs.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact on a range of levels in a variety of settings and with different audiences, including community members, teaching and other professionals.
  • Ability to contribute to a school-level team and to provide multi-cultural direction in the development of the educational program, development of language resources, and evaluation of education and behaviour management programs.
  • Ability to effectively assist teachers in implementing educational and behaviour management programs.
  • Good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs to students.
  • Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
