About the role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a driven individual to join our team! In this role, you'll be responsible for implementing a range of dynamic sales activities to attract both national and international convention and exhibition business to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC), all in line with our ambitious event and revenue targets.

You will work closely with the broader Sales team and collaborate with key departments such as Food and Beverage, Strategy and Innovation, Planning, Finance, Corporate Services, and Venue Operations. Building and establishing strong working relationships with these departments will be crucial to your success. What you’re here to do

  • Prepare, present and follow up full MCEC proposals for RFP’ in a timely manner
  • Conduct high level negotiations for win win outcomes.
  • Undertake detailed site inspections of the MCEC for clients, key stakeholders, and industry partners.
  • Utilise commercial acumen to manage, evaluate and further develop a portfolio of association, corporate, exhibitions and government accounts across a wide cross section of market segments to retain and increase business and revenue.
  • Implement Strategic Account Management for a set portfolio of accounts including establishing productive, professional relationships with key personnel and proactively assessing, clarifying, and validating customer needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Source new business opportunities for the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

What you will need

  • Preferred tertiary qualifications in tourism, hospitality, business or related discipline Prior proven experience in a senior service delivery role or similar capacity with a recognised Hospitality/Event organisation.
  • Ability to conduct high level negotiations with senior business leaders.
  • Commercially minded approach to business
  • Impact and influence skill set.
  • Proven experience in a sales managerial role within the Events industry
  • Exceptional skills in presentation, communication and negotiating skills with the ability to do this at a senior level.
