We work flexibly from our Sydney CBD Office where you can expect to work 3 days in the office with the rest from home.
About the team:
Our Group Treasury function is a small, autonomous function who work collaboratively with a wide range of internal teams including Life, Funds Management, Group Finance, Risk and Operations etc, supporting them with treasury focused work. They also lead interactions with key external stakeholders such as the Challenger Board, APRA, rating agencies and banks.
Group Treasury has responsibility for implementing funding and capital transactions in a timely, efficient, and risk-aware manner and managing risk exposures within Challenger's risk appetite.
About the role :
We are looking for an accountant to join our treasury team to support our Group Treasurer in managing the Group's liquidity, funding, and capital management activities. You'll help to develop and report on Group Treasury's activities, as well as being available to support the wider groups financial and performance reporting teams in times of peak activity.
As it's a new role you'll also be in the perfect position to recommend, suggest and implement improvements to current Treasury processes in line with best practice. With a variety of different responsibilities, no two days will be the same, but some typical responsibilities will include.
Monthly reporting on Challenger Group's liquidity and capital position.
Managing and monitoring the Group's daily cash position.
Supporting the management of the Group's liquidity and capital positions in line with risk appetite.
Assisting with the ongoing management of both Challenger Life and Challenger Group's S&P credit ratings.
Assisting in the execution of funding transactions for the Group, including issuing retail hybrid and subordinated debt securities.
Supporting with negotiation and implementation of any bank facilities across both Challenger Group and Challenger's Funds Management business together with any related derivative transactions.
Executing foreign exchange and interest rate hedging transactions in line with Group policies.
Maintaining Group liquidity and capital policies to meet internal business and external compliance requirements.
Assisting in the management of relationships with Challenger's banking partners and credit rating agencies.
The skills we need:
We are considering applicants at different levels of their accounting journey for this role. You may have recently graduated from an appropriate accounting undergraduate or post graduate degree with some work experience and/or a keen desire to step into a treasury/capital markets focused role.
Or you could have some accounting work experience and possess or in the process of obtaining a professional accounting certification such as CA/CPA or its equivalent - and keen to broaden your experience outside of your current role and broaden your experience in a treasury team.
As well as:
- Financial and/or management accounting knowledge and/or experience.
- Experience in managing several tasks simultaneously and completing them within strict deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good interpersonal skills - able to build relationships.
- Any Treasury, financial markets and financial services knowledge is preferred but not essential - but it must be an area you are keen to build a career in.
