Based on NSW Government projections, the population will increase to over 80,000 by 2036.About the RoleStrathfield Council has a fantastic opportunity for 2 Accountants to join our Finance team on a temporary, full-time basis for up to 12 Months.The accountant provides agile support across Council's financial management functions, delivering essential accounting and financial services, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, financial reporting, and compliance with relevant regulations and policies. The role will be involved in maintaining financial records, processing transactions, preparing reports, supporting financial operations, and ensuring compliance.This role will suit newly graduated candidates or are working towards a bachelor degree in Accounting Finance or related field. Previous experience is desirable but not essential for this role.To excel in this role, the position will require the successful candidates to: * Provide comprehensive support to various areas of the finance team, including financial reporting, budgeting, account reconciliations, rates and revenue management, and statutory compliance.
- Execute core financial operations tasks, such as processing financial transactions related to accounts payable, investments, bonds and deposits, payroll, end of month and end of year processes, and all other relevant ad-hoc tasks as directed by the CFO.
- Collaborate across different teams within the finance department to optimize resource allocation and ensure efficient support for various functions.
- Acquire and enhance skills necessary to effectively support diverse functions within the finance team.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement within the finance team and contribute to the implementation of improvements.
- Provide backup support to teams and functions during staff absences.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and documentation.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, and presentations as required by management.
- Previous experience in accounting or finance is desirable but not essential.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Analytical skills to interpret financial data and prepare reports.
- Keen attention to detail and an appropriate level of professional scepticism.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, supporting and contributing to team goals.
- Effective time management skills to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
