LearnIT – Learner Driver Mentoring Program
LearnIT is a learner driving mentoring program funded by the Department of Transport and Main Roads. Additional support is achieved via community sponsorship.
The program assists disadvantaged and vulnerable young people, who are having difficulty in obtaining a provisional driver’s license to obtain their required supervised driving hours. The program has five stages to build on levels of competency and safe driving skills. Young people are also educated in safe driving, budgeting for ongoing costs (registrations, tires, fuel etc.), and are referred to other services to support their needs.
Objectives:
- Assist disadvantaged young people obtain a driver’s license.
- Improved compliance with Queensland GLS requirements, in particular the 100 logbook ours supervised on-road driving experience requirement.
- Reduced unlicensed driving crash and injury rate in the vulnerable target group.
- Increase safe driving behaviours and attitudes for service users.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
Provide administrative support to the Learn It Coordinator and Volunteer mentors.
- Complete data entry on volunteer mentor and mentees profiles (personal contact details, driver’s license expiry dates, demerit points)
- Monitor BookingTimes online booking system for scheduled bookings / cancellations.
- Assist potential mentors to apply for Blue Card registration, and ensure all Mentors are compliant with working with children and youth. Confirm blue card currency and organisational link with the Operations Officer
- Respond to general enquiries regarding referrals, application process, and or donations (phone, & emails)
- Assist with the review of program forms (referral forms, applications, photo consent, privacy, and confidentiality)
- Provide secretarial support services for the Learn It program e.g., take minutes of meetings, prepare letters, certificates for mentors, assist with preparation of digital marketing materials.
- Undertake and maintain accurate documentation including records of driving hours for both participants and mentors. Keeping receipts for expenditure and prepare petty cash reconciliation for financial accountability.
- Scheduling LearnIT fleet maintenance services and maintain vehicle records of service history.
- Assist with social media marketing promotions e.g., prepare story for Operations Officer endorsement.
- Assist with a range of record management services.

Qualifications and Experience

- Entry level for a relevant three-year degree -pay point 2.
- Associate diploma with relevant experience
- Relevant certificate with relevant experiences, or experience attained through previous appointments, services and/or study.
- Appropriate certificate relevant to the work required to be performed.
- Entry level for diploma graduate
Job skills
- Experience with data entry and client management systems.
- Microsoft 365
- Publishing tools such as Canva or Adobe creative tools
- Customer Service, front office experience.
Organisational Core Requirements.
- Possession of a suitability card for working with Children and Youth (Blue card) – No Card no work
- Current QLD Driver’s License
- Police Criminal history check
- Demonstrated understanding of youth issues, and the service delivery required to support and develop young people and their families.
- Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in a culturally appropriate, sensitive way.
- Broad understanding of Road Safety rules.
