We have an opportunity for an Agronomist in the Emerald region. Our team currently supports Farm Management overseeing approximately 1700 hectares of mandarin trees across farms. Reporting to the Regional Agronomy Manager, this role will be responsible for the development and implementation of our agronomic plans in region.
At Costa, there is a strong emphasis on investigating innovative practices and products which lead to improvements in yield, fruit quality and sustainability of our farming operations. As we continue to experience a period of growth in region, this role is central to ensuring high standards are set with regard to our site's agronomic practices and commercial outcomes.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Role Summary
- Act as a subject matter expert in Citrus agronomy in region
- Develop, implement and monitor plans related to pest and disease management, weed control, nutrient management and soil amelioration
- Work closely with Farm Management to provide technical support on agronomic and cultural practices
- Work closely with site leadership to ensure the productivity, profitability and sustainability of the farm is maximised
- Work with the Agronomy team to ensure that reports are timely and provide sound technical advice
- Ensure efficacy and integrity in data collection, analysis and presentation practices
- Conduct research and extension activities to drive horticultural and commercial outcomes
- Collaborate with external industry bodies
- Support the team in appropriate responses to sudden changes in Environmental conditions
- Support and mentor junior members of the team
Education, Qualifications, Training:
- Advanced degree in Agronomic Science
- 10+ years experience in farming of mandarins, preferably in a similar climate to region
- Management experience
- Experience in driving Research and Development initiatives
- Knowledge of citrus industry standards as they relate to crop nutrition, crop irrigation and pest & disease management
- Data analytics and interpretation
- Professional industry membership desirable but not essential
