We are the proud custodians of Australian Parliament House - the working symbol of Australian democracy and an iconic destination for citizens and international visitors. It is a place where more than 3,500 people work on sitting days, and which nearly a million people visit each year.The APH Catering and Events Team is responsible for delivering high quality food and beverage services to building occupants and visitors, with a focus on goods that showcase products of the local region and position APH as a destination of choice.Throughout your apprenticeship you will be exposed to services delivered through multiple kitchens and retail outlets that include function catering, a la carte, bistro and cafés (both public-facing and within private areas).In addition, you will experience and learn various culinary applications and work processes that relate to providing a high level of catering service through an in-house delivery model that adheres to workplace health and safety as well as food safety standards according to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) regulationsWho we are looking forWe are looking for highly motivated individuals who have a willingness to learn new skills and work in a collaborative manner across the department.   • Willingness to undertake and complete a Certificate III in Patisserie with a certified registered training organisation (RTO)

Immediate supervisor: Executive ChefUnder limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for Parliamentary Service Level 2. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • As a member of the APH Catering and Events Team, assist with the delivery of food, beverage and catering services at APH through an in-house service delivery model that provides a high standard of food and service across all outlets to a wide range of stakeholders including building occupants, other parliamentary departments, vendors, function organisers and the general public.
  • Provide high quality service in the preparation and production within the kitchen operation to meet appropriate standards by the application of specialist catering knowledge and techniques to meet the requirements of customers.
  • Build and maintain a contemporary knowledge of food industry trends, with the intent to recommend/implement improvements to develop all aspects of current food production, presentation, and service.
  • Participate and contribute to the Service First Culture as a motivated team player who is respectful and ethical.
  • Establish and meet deadlines by planning and prioritising work to ensure timely service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant WHS and food safety standards (HACCP).
  • Other duties as required.

SalaryCurrently, the salary range for this position is $59,041 - $73,265 per annum.Conditions of EmploymentEmployment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:
  • Australian citizenship - to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • Security clearance and character clearance - the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
  • Health assessment - a pre-employment health assessment may be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
