The Role
We welcome you to join us as we deliver capital facilities and infrastructure projects across the Defence estate as an APS5 Project Officer within Capital Facilities and Infrastructure Branch (CFI), Infrastructure Division (ID), Security and Estate Group (SEG). The Defence estate is the Commonwealth’s largest landholding.
We are responsible for ensuring that its facilities and infrastructure are fit-for-purpose and effectively support Defence capability including ships, vehicles and aircraft. We achieve this by planning, developing and delivering projects that provide new and refurbished facilities and infrastructure.
This includes, but is not limited to, wharves, airfields, roads, hangars, engineering services, living-in accommodation, working accommodation, and storage.
About our Team
- The roles involve working as part of a team to progress projects through the estate lifecycle phases including:
- Understanding the mechanics of Government and relevant legislation and Defence policy. • Progressing assigned projects with moderate supervision;
- Drafting project plans;
- Assisting to procure and manage contractors using the Defence Infrastructure Panel and the Defence Suite of Facilities Contracts;
- Actively engaging stakeholders including industry, project sponsors, technical policy owners and users;
- Participating in project meetings including Project Control Groups;
- Reviewing contractor deliverables including Monthly Reports;
- Assisting to prepare project documentation including briefs and minutes;
- Assisting to progress projects through approval processes;
- Managing project finances including paying invoices and raising purchase orders;
- Assisting to provide input into various reporting activities;
- Conducting general project administration activities including drafting contract notices;
- Travelling to site to participate in meetings, consult stakeholders, inspect existing facilities and infrastructure, and monitor construction progress. Regular interstate travel may be required.
Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for people with qualifications, skills, experience and/or a genuine interest in client-side project management, and/or estate, land, property, facilities and infrastructure matters.
Additionally, above all, we are looking for people that possess a great attitude, and are willing to learn, work hard and positively contribute to our workplace environment. What sort of skills do I need?
- You need to possess strong written and verbal communication skills: engaging with stakeholders, preparing briefs, and reviewing contractor deliverables represent key parts of the role.
- Our work is multi-faceted and our environment is fast-paced: you need to be resilient and able to manage competing priorities.
- Problem solving skills are essential: on one project, you might be working through environmental issues whereas, on the next, you might be procuring a contractor.
- You must be resourceful and flexible enough to analyse and solve problems as they arise.
