Hudson has partnered with a high-profile government department requiring an APS 6/EL 1 Policy Research Officer who has experience working across government and the technical expertise in any STEM field to assess relevant foreign arrangements. Duties
- Work with the department's legal Policy Officers to understand and assess arrangements notified under the Foreign Arrangements Scheme
- Engage with existing assessment methods and recommend improvements to support identifying risks and developing risk mitigations
- Produce and coordinate accurate assessments in a timely manner in order to facilitate consultation with other areas within the department and external government stakeholders
- Support briefing and advice to the relevant Minister
- Engage with relevant stakeholders across the department to promote the Foreign Arrangements Scheme interests on technical matters and pursue joint outcomes.
- Knowledge and experience undertaking scientific or technological cooperation as well as targeted research and analysis in order to identify key issues
- Ability to critically evaluate those issues in order to assess risks and formulate mitigations
- Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships through strong stakeholder liaison and communication skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in order to translate complex technical concepts into easy to understand and concise briefings for non-technical audiences
- Flexibility and adaptability to accurately incorporate new information or knowledge into advice
- Experience in foreign and strategic policy (this will be valuable, but not essential).
