Area Manager - Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve

The ACT Parks and Conservation Service (PCS) is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to manage Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve (TNR).

Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is one of Canberra's iconic nature destinations. The Reserve offers visitors a suite of natural attractions including wildlife, mountain creeks and cascading waterfalls and giant granite tors and a well documented insight into the culture and practices of the region's Traditional Custodians. The Reserve is also home to a number of rare and threatened species recovery programs that aim to breed and release endangered species back into the wild. https://www.tidbinbilla.act.gov.au/home.

The Reserve's Area Manager is responsible for management of the entire reserve estate consistent with the overarching Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve Plan of Management. The manager will lead a team of dedicated Rangers and General Service Officers to deliver land management programs and Ranger Guided Tours, and maintain the reserve's infrastructure including fenced enclosures, walking trails and cultural and European heritage and most importantly the valley's conservation values. The position works closely and collaboratively with the Threatened Species Program Manager with some responsibility for the programs' infrastructure.

The successful candidate will be motivated and a highly competent manager with requisite skills and experience in conservation and land management and managing protected areas. The candidate will have proven experience in managing teams and working directly and collaboratively with other teams and major stakeholders. The candidate will be highly organised flexible with an ability to respond to changing priorities and possible emergencies.

The position manages up to ten staff and works from the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve depot.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements

Mandatory:

• Possess and maintain a current driver's licence.
• Be prepared to wear a uniform.
• The successful applicant must have or obtain a current ACT Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) Registration.
• This position is classified as a Designated Fire Position under the Collective Agreement. Bushfire related activities, including bushfire suppression, is a mandatory component of the position. Appointment / promotion / transfer to the position is conditional upon successful completion of a nationally recognized firefighting task-based fitness assessment.

Highly desirable:

• Relevant qualifications and experience in environmental and/or natural resource management.
